Product overview

• Prevents wear on cables and connectors caused by repeated plugging and unplugging• Standard TosLink™ type sockets• Three optical inputs to one optical output

As more and more items of home entertainment equipment are supplied with optical digital audio connections (TosLinks™) it is increasingly frustrating that amplifiers and surround sound processors have only one input. This simple to use switch solves the problem of having to repeatedly plug and unplug equipment leads. This switcher will allow you to select an input from up to three sources with a positive locking action to ensure optimum signal transfer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This is a simple and very effective bit of kit. I was a bit unsure given the negative reviews but thought I'd give it a shot and it works great. I even took it apart to look inside to see how it works and although the whole thing looks cheap where it's plastic, inside it's well made with spring loaded metal catches and clips instead of plastic parts which could break. As long as you don't go playing football with it I can see this lasting forever tbh. People complaining that the wheel or dial wouldn't turn must have missed the button on the dial itself, you need to press it in so that the catch inside is released enabling you to turn the dial to desired port.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Was sceptical after reading the other reviews but gave it a go anyway. Has been working fine for 2 months now with no problems. Connectivity was easy and sounds pretty decent on a fairly high end system.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This is a great bit of kit no problems with it at all , used everyday without any issues and saved me lots of plugging and unplugging.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from It didn't even work, the main input wouldn't hold any of my 2 different brands of optical cable, and the dial in the middle wouldn't move, cheaply made too, just chucked it straight in the bin

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does as it says I read the mixed reviews but trusted Maplin enough to buy. When I connected a device through the switch to my amp it didn't work at first. A bit of research led me to swap the cheap optic cable I used for a better quality one and everything now works perfectly. My guess is all the moaning reviewers haven't tried with good enough cables :-)

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Dreadful One socket worked briefly, the other two didn't work at all. Within one week the working socket started to crackle then failed completely. Utter junk. Do not buy.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from After reading reviews thought I would at least try this item. Initial thought was that this was very cheaply made, and I was proved right, put three inputs in to the switch and one out, all high quality, initially it worked fine until I switched from one input to another, then I found that there were no connections and the reason the cables would keep falling out.

Sorry it's impossible to answer without information about the two devices. Can you email pictures of the audio interconnects for both items to for both devices and we can see if we have anything that will connect the two.

I have a long optical cable that I sometimes want to use as an optical input to an MD deck, and sometimes I want to use it connected to the optical output. As the sockets are round the back of the MD deck, would this product be suitable to let me switch between the two?
Asked by: Jim Randell
Yes the product does support that.
