Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product! We have used this item on many occasions to clone hard drives in different computers without any problems. Supplied with a USB 3 lead and an external power supply. Its also really well made from good quality plastics etc.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Read speed is excellent, write speed, not so much Using a WD30EFRX SATA drive, this dock can only do about 55MB/s write speed to NTFS using a single 600MB file. Any hopes of doing a speedy zero fill erase, forget it... just a paltry 3MB/s. If you just want the dock for reading data, it'll be fine.

My OS has failed, can I use this dock to recover files off the drive? I've tried re-installing Windows 10 but I only have 2gb free and the re installation needs nearly 10gb. So can I use this to free up space to fix my PC? I have 600gb of data.

Unfortunately we cannot guarantee this will work for your intended use without knowing the reason the PC is broke.

The description seems to emphasise "READ the drive". Which leaves me to wonder why it wouldn't be possible to write to it. It probably does, but the wording is confusing. Can you confirm the writing capabilities to the docked drive.

Asked by: Trazzi
I have one of these myself, once you insert a drive into it you can read and write to the drive normally as long as you have permissions. For example if you took a drive out of another Windows computer or laptop you can read and write data to it as long as you have the Windows user name and password to access that data. All normal commands are supported read / write / copy / move / delete.
