About this product

Overview

Product overview

• 48W mains powered solder station that allows you to start soldering by simply plugging the iron in
• Heats up in 5 minutes to give you a stable and constant temperature so you can complete all your soldering tasks
• Temperature ranges from 150°C to 450°C, depend on wattage, allowing you to store heat in the tip to aid the melting process
• No restrictions on how long you can use this soldering iron as it is mains powered

Special Features
• LCD display to allow you to set and monitor the temperature of your soldering iron

What is this solder station used for?
This soldering iron is part of an LCD solder station. The iron is temperature controlled and can be set through the station which shows the set temperature and actual temperature. The station includes an iron stand and sponge

What difference does the wattage make?
The wattage of a soldering iron is one of the most important factors when deciding which one to buy. Higher wattage will deliver more power to the iron’s tip, allowing it to heat up quicker. As this is a 48W mains soldering iron, it heats up the tip within five minutes to a selected temperature, allowing you to start soldering without having to refill butane tanks or replace batteries.

Do I need anything else for this soldering iron?
This soldering iron is fully assembled. To get started, all you need to do is get some solder. Simply unpack this soldering iron and connect it to a mains socket. After five minutes, it should have warmed up to temperature and be ready for use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very pleased, good piece of kit! Purchased this to compliment my large heat gun which was too large to solder small circuits. I have found this soldering station to be ideal for electronic circuits and have already made two LED clocks. The soldering tip supplied is quite fine and spares are available. It is good to see the temperature of the soldering iron on a large display and you can set any temperature up to 450 degrees C. Great for high/low temperature melting point solders. A well made soldering station that is a pleasure to use. The mains lead could be a little longer, but that is a minor point.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Product Purchased one of these from Maplin shop in Cheltenham. Having used it several times I have found the iron to be very responsive to temperature change maintaining temp to within a few degrees even when soldering large RF shielding covers to a PCB. The Iron heats up quickly and maintains temp accurately and the build quality is good. I also purchased a pack of 3 tips to go with the iron, a fine point good for SMD rework medium point for general pcb work and a 3mm tip for slightly heavier soldering. All said this is a reasonably priced product that performs well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Iron My old iron stopped working had it for some years and always thought it was pretty good. Now I have this new one with digital display i realize how bad the old one really was. This new one will melt solder at 200c and do a 60amp connector with ease at 300c. I really like the lcd, soldering control at the touch of a button. The whole unit has a well built feel about it good product hope it lasts.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent value for the price My Weller soldering station finally gave up after nearly 30 years great service so I looked around for something to replace it at a reasonable cost. Having read the reviews and looked at various you tube demonstrations, I decided against the 60w station due to the poor quality and poor reviews. I popped into my local Maplins and had a good look at this 48W solder station and thought it looked pretty well made and so I bought it. Once home I plugged it in and allowed it to warm up, 30 secs later it was happily showing 320 deg C. The temperature is easily changed by the front panel up/down buttons and settle quickly. The manual says it can hold temp within 1 deg but in use it would keep it within about 6 deg of set temp. This not really a problem, because as soon as you start soldering, heat is taken out of the bit and as it drops by a couple of degrees, it switches the heating on to maintain temp. with only a small overshoot. I tried soldering various components into vero-board using 60/40 lead /tin 0.8mm solder and the joints where formed quickly and with excellent form. I also tried it on some old pcb's that were not pristine, but again it gave perfect results. Only one bit is supplied which is good for general construction, but Maplins sell a pack of three spare's, one very fine, suitable for smd work, a medium the same as comes with the iron, and a large for heavier work. My overall impression is that it is excellent value for money and unless you spend three times the price, you wont find many that are better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome! After a long search for a soldering station at an affordable price I have decided to purchase this, over the more powerful and expensive version, due to the quality reviews. All I can say is this station is perfect. I've only been using standard 30w and 15w soldering irons for electronics work till now and this station makes everything so much easier. The temperature control let's you ensure that you do not damage the sensitive components. The overall quality of the materials used on the station is not the greatest, and the plastic casing feeling fairly questionable in places, however don't let that steer you away from the fact that the performance of the iron is flawless. After performing an 'activation' routine on the tips, following the 'How to tin a soldering iron tip' YouTube video, I have been using the station almost every day for about 2 weeks now, and it is still performing and looking like new. Overall, very very happy with this item and would definitely recommend to anyone! P.s - remember to buy different size tips, it makes jobs so much easier, and you MUST tin them before use, or they will oxidize and become unusable!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great solder station I have had my solder station now for about a year and found it to be very reliable. I bought mine when it was on special offer and I have to say I got myself a bargain.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good. Generally, I am pleased with this unit. The temperature control seems to work well. I bought a set of tips at the same time, and so far only used the very fine point for surface mount devices, and it is as good as my old Weller iron. The power, at 48W, should make heavier soldering (with the larger tip) easy as well. The only downside for me is the iron stand. This comes attached to the mains unit, but the stand sides are lower than the control unit, and so scrape on the worktop. I considered modifying it, but I have discarded this and used the old Weller stand as it is separate and much heavier.
