Rated 5 out of 5 by from The 8 battery box is definitely worth getting if doing electrical projects requiring from about 3 to 12 volts. Less than 8 batteries can be used if a small piece of wire is used to fill the correct connection.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from The only had one job.. Summary: fine for non-critical cases where the use will be monitored, but not for much else. Bought these for a long-term time-lapse project, and they've been nothing but a headache. They don't provide a solid electrical connection to the AA cells (on the positive end), so the overall battery voltage will quite often just be zero. Not ideal when you are leaving a project alone for days or weeks on end. The problem is simply that the plastic that holds the four "outside" batteries is too tight, meaning that the AA battery doesn't freely move - the spring on the negative end that forces a good electrical contact just isn't strong enough to overcome the grip of the plastic part. Even if I push the AA cells up against the positive end to make contact, any slight knock will result in the connection being lost. The springs just aren't strong enough to keep a good connection given the tight grip of the plastic part. Note: I've had this same problem with the Velleman MK128 Kitchen Timer kit, in that case it was a 3xAAA battery box.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Reply to Anthony All AA batteries are not the same width. I have some Maplin Hybrid that are clearly wider than disposable AAs. When I have had this problem in the past with these and other compartments I have just sawn off the flaps and smoothed the edges. When stuff is only Ј1.69 you do sometimes have to do some DIY.

Are the individual batteries connected in series (9.6v) or in parallel (1.2v)?

Asked by: Fred
These would be in series 8 x industry standard 1.5v cells would be 12v

Hi is this configured to give for example 9.6v (from 1.2v) batteries, or is 1.2v (with plenty of amps).

Asked by: trippelh
8 x 1.2v batteries will deliver 9.6v total if you used standard 1.5v cells you would deliver 12v total You are never going to have "plenty of amps" from 1.2/1.5v AA cells
