Easily boost your sound projects using this handy amplifier module. Simply power with 2.7-5V to VDD, select your dB gain, attach your preferred input and add some speakers and you’re ready to rock. You can amplify your mobile phone, MP3 player, laptop, or even an Arduino or Raspberry Pi project.
Great performance for power consumed
Thanks to the Class D amplifier there is less heat generated, which saves power and provides an incredible 89% energy efficiency rating – with 8 ohm speakers using a 5V suppler. This kit provides you with two 2.8W channels using 4 ohm speakers, or two 1.5W channels using 8 ohm speakers.
How to pick the right speaker
You need to ensure that the wattage of the speakers is greater than that of the wattage being fed through. This amp is designed mostly for 4 ohm and 8 ohm speakers, higher ohm speakers may be used but will generate a large amount of heat.
Putting the connections to use
Each gain level activated will double the existing voltage of the audio input. You will get twice the voltage for 6dB, four times the voltage for 12dB, eight times the voltage for 16dB and 16 times the voltage for 24dB. Applied practically, a 12dB gain will change a 0.25V audio input to 1V audio output. You can change the gain by using the switches or joining the G0 or/and G1 pins to ground which mimics turning each of them "on".
If you are not using a differential input, simply bridge the L- and R- marked input pins. This is common for devices that use a 3.5mm jack, and is complimented by a 3.5mm jack, PCB mounted or in-line.
This amp also has a channel shut off, allowing you to turn off the right or the left channel independently via the SDR (Shut Down Right) and SDL (Shut Down Left) pins by connecting them to ground.
