Smart connection of five fans from single motherboard PWM header, enables quiet operation of performance systems, length: 45cm

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Be careful. This doesnt always do the job intended I bought this the other day from my local maplin store as I was building a new raid server and the motherboard only had 3 PWM connectors but the case had 5 fans. After fitting I was scratching my head for ages trying to figure out why the fans were running at full speed continously even though i was changing the speed settings in the bios. Eventually I figured out that the cable is wired for a CPU fan rather than a System fan connection. The difference is the speed and Vcc cable to swapped between the two, meaning the fan will run at full speed if its connected to the wrong socket. I now have to either find another product or make up a custom cable to switch the connectors around.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works perfectly I think the previous reviewer is mistaken and using the wrong header on his mobo because mine works perfectly. 3 pin headers are not PWM, only 4 pin headers are and if you connect this to a 3 pin it will just operate the fans at full speed as he described. Connect this to the correct 4 pin PWM header and it will work as intended slowing the fans when the system isn't under load and increasing them when the system is being taxed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from right lead wrong connection i bought this lead so i could power my 5 corsair hd fans but when i received it the wrong end was on it i expected it to plug into the motherboard so had to get a different end and adapt it great value though it now does what i want it to

Does this fan connect 3 pin fans to a 4 pin header on the motherboard?

Asked by: dangavster
This will make one 4 pin connector accept 5 fans.

Your product states that it will power f internal fans within tower from one connection onto the motherboard, why do you then need the large power connector to connect to the PSU

Asked by: Rayf
That would be because it takes the PWM signal (pulse width modulation) from the motherboard which varies the speed of the fans in direct relation to the temperature being reported, but it needs a direct power feed from the power supply to actually drive all the extra connected fans.
