Amazon Echo is a hands-free speaker you control with your voice. Echo connects to the Alexa Voice Service to play music, provide information, news, sports scores, weather and more. If you’re an Amazon Prime member, you can even order selected Prime products and other eligible products you’ve ordered before. All you have to do is ask.
Voice-control your music
Amazon Echo gives you hands-free control of your Amazon Music account, Spotify, or TuneIn. You can ask for your favourite song, or artist, or even a specific genre and Alexa will play it for you. You can also find music based on when a song or album was released, or search using song lyrics, or let Alexa pick the music for you. Echo is a Bluetooth-enabled device, so you can also stream music directly from your phone or tablet, or using other popular music services, like iTunes.
Echo has been fine-tuned to deliver crisp vocals with dynamic bass response. Its dual downward-firing speakers produce 360° omni-directional audio to fill any room with immersive sound.
Far-field voice recognition
Amazon Echo has an array of seven microphones that are discreetly tucked away under the light ring. These microphones use beamforming technology and enhanced noise cancellation as well as far-field voice recognition to ensure that Echo can hear you ask a question from any direction, even if you have got music on, or are in a noisy environment. Using Echo Spatial Perception, Alexa will respond intelligently from the device that you are closest to, allowing you to have a multi-room setup using more than one Echo or Echo Dot.
Always getting smarter
Alexa, the brains behind Echo, automatically updates through the cloud. This means that she is constantly learning, and new skills are being added all the time. The more you use Echo, the more it adapts to your speech patterns, vocabulary and personal preference.
Echo has skills
Within the Alexa app, you can enable skills to let your Amazon Echo do even more, and truly customise your experience. A growing catalogue of skills will help you to make the most of your Echo, with the specific capabilities that suit your needs, from checking train times with National Rail, to ordering take away from Just Eat, checking your EDF Energy account balance to ordering a taxi with Uber, and checking The Guardian for headlines, or asking Jamie Oliver for a recipe.
Control your Smart Home
You can use the Amazon Echo to switch on, or dim, your lights, control your heating and thermostat, and even activate your household appliances, all without lifting a finger, but using your voice. Echo works with compatible smart home devices such as Netamo, tado, WeMo, Phillips Hue and Hive. Echo also supports IFTTT (If This, Then That), which is a third-party service which will allow you to create rules that will automate how your devices, apps and websites work together with one another.
Do more with the Alexa app
The Alexa app, free on Amazon Fire OS, Android, iOS and desktop browsers, allows you to easily set-up and manage your Amazon Echo, and to connect to services you already use, such as Amazon Music, Spotify and Google Calendar. The Alexa app allows you to set up your Smart Home devices, see which books are available to listen to from your Audible library and view your shopping and to-do lists on the go. Within the Alexa app you can discover and enable third party skills, you can control your timers and set custom tones for your alarms.
