What is Amazon Echo Dot?
Amazon Echo Dot is a hands-free voice-controlled device with a small built-in speaker. It can also connect to your speakers or headphones over Bluetooth or through a 3.5 mm audio cable to deliver stereo sound to the speakers you choose. Echo Dot connects to the Alexa Voice Service to play music, provide information, news, sports scores, weather and more. If you’re an Amazon Prime member, you can even order selected Prime products and other eligible products you’ve ordered before.

Made for any room
Echo Dot is sleek and compact, so you can put it almost anywhere, and it will never look out of place. It has a small built-in speaker so you can use it as a smart alarm clock that can also turn off your lights, or timer in your kitchen, and can be directly connected to external speakers, so that you can add voice control to your home stereo system.

Voice-control your music
Amazon Echo Dot gives you hands-free control of your Amazon Music account, Spotify, or TuneIn. You can ask for your favourite song, or artist, or even a specific genre and Alexa will play it for you. You can also find music based on when a song or album was released, or search using song lyrics, or let Alexa pick the music for you. Echo Dot is a Bluetooth-enabled device, so you can also stream music directly from your phone or tablet, or using other popular music services, like iTunes.

Far-field voice recognition
Amazon Echo Dot has an array of seven microphones that are discreetly tucked away under the light ring. These microphones use beam-forming technology and enhanced noise cancellation as well as far-field voice recognition to ensure that Echo Dot can hear you ask a question from any direction, even if you have got music on, or are in a noisy environment. Using Echo Spatial Perception, Alexa will respond intelligently from the device that you are closest to, allowing you to have a multi-room setup using more than one Echo or Echo Dot.

Always getting smarter
Alexa, the brains behind Echo Dot, automatically updates, through the cloud on a regular basis. This means that she is constantly learning, and new skills are being added all the time. The more you use Echo, the more it adapts to your speech patterns, vocabulary and personal preference.

Control your Smart Home
You can use Amazon Echo Dot to switch on, or dim, your lights, control your heating and thermostat, and even activate your household appliances, all without lifting a finger, but using your voice. Echo Dot works with compatible smart home devices such as Netamo, tado, WeMo, Phillips Hue and Hive. Echo Dot also supports IFTTT (If This, Then That), which is a third-party service, which will allow you to create rules that will automate how your devices, apps and websites work together with one another.

Echo Dot has skills
Within the Alexa app, you can enable skills to let your Amazon Echo Dot Black do even more, and truly customise your experience. A growing catalogue of skills will help you to make the most of your Echo Dot with the specific capabilities that suit your needs, from checking train times with National Rail, to ordering take away from Just Eat, checking your EDF Energy account balance to ordering a taxi with Uber, and checking The Guardian for headlines, or asking Jamie Oliver for a recipe.

Do more with the Alexa app
The Alexa app is free on Amazon Fire OS, Android, iOS and desktop browsers and allows you to easily set-up and manage your Amazon Echo Dot, and to connect to services you already use, such as Amazon Music, Spotify and Google Calendar. The Alexa app allows you to set up your Smart Home devices, see which books are available to listen to from your Audible library and view your shopping and to-do lists on the go. Within the Alexa app you can discover and enable third party skills, you can control your timers and set custom tones for your alarms.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An amazing addition to any smart home Already having a swann CCTV kit, an internal Piper camera and Philips Hue lights, the Echo Dot was a great addition. Set up and working in under 5 minutes, it has made the lights even easier to use than before... I don't even need to reach for my phone! Setting alarms works like a charm, setting timers for cooking, and getting Alexa to look things up for me has been a huge benefit. It may seem lazy to some, it may seem like it won't really save any time (it only takes seconds to google something) but when you're rushing around multi-tasking, being able to just carry on while asking Alexa to do part of the work... the time really does add up. Haven't used a whole host of skills yet, but the weight tracker works like a charm and keeps you up to date on your progress as well as target. I've added several ambient noise skills and it has to be said, playing the sound of thunderstorms all night was amazing. Integrated without a hitch to spotify and Alexa immediately recognized all of my play lists. Alexa even has a favourite Pokemon... we know, we asked!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Alexa is mine I eventually gave in and took the plunge with Alexa Dot. I have Lightwaverf home automation so this fits in well. I can even tell her to put the kettle on or open the curtains. The 'Skills' are very easy to pair and voice control is a doddle even from another room with the door open.

When I asked who was winning women's semi final she couldn't answer, seemed not to understand question.

Asked by: heathb
Typically such a question would need a subject matter at the end in order for the device to reference the initial enquiry. Based on the information you have supplied the question is incomplete Womens semi final ... of what ????? ... Football, Tennis, Water Polo A similar example of an incomplete question would be How many eggs do I need to ..... Try rephrasing your question to achieve a successful outcome.
