Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good work AMD I've just bought an A10-7850k for a budget build with some upgrade potential. I didn't want to have to buy a dedicated graphics card on my initial budget, but wanted a machine which could handle some light gaming and compete with mid range CPUs such as the older i5 processors and the newer i3 series processors. So a decent APU was a sensible choice. The A10-7850k can be overclocked to 4.0ghz and performs well assuming some suitable cooling hardware is fitted (I wouldn't personally overclock with a stock cooler) The onboard graphics can cope reasonable well in older or less demanding games, allowing me to max the settings on some titles, but the settings will need to be dropped to near unplayable levels to play newer more demanding titles. The reason I chose the A10 is that the integrated graphics can function in tandem (dual graphics mode) with any of the R7 graphics cards. This is similar to using two dedicated cards in crossfire although the gains are slightly less substantial. This means for around ?80 I can double or even triple the pixel pushing horsepower of my machine. If you intend to use the integrated GPU of this APU then remember not to skimp on your ram, you'll need something nice and fast, above 1800mhz is Ok but the ideal speed is 2133mhz, and you're really going to notice the difference in framerates. Also keep in mind that if you only have minimal system RAM you might want to add a couple of Gbs since the integrated GPU will eat a few potentially leaving you with hardly enough to run your OS, I recommend 8Gb, going for 4gb wouldn't be enough, and going for 16Gb could be overkill. In summary, a good budget chip, flexible and fast. But will never be setting any bench marking records any time soon.
