What is the Arduino Ethernet Shield R3?
The Arduino Ethernet Shield R3 allows the addition of networking capabilities as well as the ability to store and host files. The 10/100Mb Ethernet controller allows you to use any other networked device to communicate with your Arduino project. For example you can reset your Arduino, or give it commands from your mobile phone while across the world.
This shield also has a Micro SD card socket enabling file storage and hosting, which is great if you’re looking to host your own mini server or keeping your files with you wherever you go.
This enables you to attach it to most Arduino related development boards that have the same pin layout. Connect to development boards without the need of jump leads or soldering, maximising the amount of space you have to work with while maintaining a tidy finish.
This shield is a middle layer shield, as it uses stacking pins so you can add further breakout. Some shields may fit without header extensions, just be cautious of the RJ45 socket.

How can I get the most out of my project?
The on-board Wiznet W5100 Ethernet chip provides a network (IP) stack capable of both TCP and UDP. It supports up to four simultaneous socket connections.
Works perfectly with Arduino’s Ethernet library to allow your sketches to connect to the internet through the shield.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Really nice, fixes easily into the Arduino main board such as the Uno, An ethernet cable can be inserted into it for connection to the internet and an SD card slot for attaching your SD card which your webpages can be saved.
