Why choose the Arduino Nano?
The Arduino Nano is designed to be small without having to sacrifice functionality. Other than a DC socket, the Arduino Nano has all the features you would expect from an Arduino.
Due to the small, compact nature of the Arduino Nano, Standard Arduino shields can not be used, however Nano specific shields can be found to increase the capabilities of the Arduino Nano. Alternatively the Nano is fully breadboard compatibly, this allows you to use an electronics breadboard to connect external components

What is Arduino?
Arduino is an inexpensive tool for developing interactive objects that can detect various inputs and sensors to control a variety of lights, motors, or other physical outputs. How do I program an Arduino?

Your description says that it is both compatible with shields and not compatible with shields. Can you explain that?

We are sorry for the confusion, we have reported the issue to our content team to address. As the nano does not share the common footprint used with the full size boards and shields it would not physically fit with any standard Arduino shield.

Can I use external 9V dc to power a Nano board & if yes where is it connected to ?

yes you can power the nano board with a power source from 5v to 20volts when applied to pin VIN there is an internal 5v regulator to power the board
