Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good internal drive supporting a wide variety of standards. I had been toying with the idea of getting a Blu-Ray drive for a while now. Coupled with the issue that the DVD Drive that came with my PC wouldn't recognize and play some of my audio CDs I decided to take the plunge and give this a try buoyed by the fact that on explaining my issue to the store assistant, I was advised that I could return it if it didn't resolve my CD playback issue. I'm happy to say that testing the CD, (in this case, Forgiven Not Forgotten by the Corrs) proved that I would not have to return the product. I was able to fire up the CD with no problem. Installation of the Drive was a doddle , (but then again I've been tinkering with PC's since 1994. Both sides of the case were removed and the old DVD drive unscrewed and removed, to be replaced with the new drive. The only disappointment was that no SATA cables or screws were included with the drive, which would have meant extra outlay if I had decided to keep the old DVD in place and run the 2 drives in tandem. Not a big issue but something for buyers to be mindful of. Windows 10 detected the drive without a hitch, just as well as no official driver support on the ASUS website and the drive itself comes with a disk with the ASUS E-Green Utility to minimize the drives power usage and CYBERLINK Power 2 Go. The drive is very quick to spin up and very quiet in operation, and I have had no issues with either Audio or DVD playback, however I have been unable to test BLU-Ray playback name as I don't own any BLU-Rays as of this time. The drive is said to support up to BD-XL disks which theoretically mean that you would be able to create a disk storing up to 128 GB of data. Because this is only a single write standard however it is best kept for storing important backups of data or photos, however the drive does support DVD re-writable s. In short if you want to future-proof your PC and watch BLU-Rays a good buy. However with the high price you have to be sure you want it's features.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Can't get it to work with AHCI mode SATA (Firmware 1.01) This works great in an older PC with BIOS set to emulate SATA as IDE (Phoenix SATA 'Enhanced'), but tried it in an HP Elite 8000 SFF to replace the existing SATA DVD-ROM drive with Win 7 installed in AHCI SATA mode and it just failed to appear - it's as if it wasn't installed, even though the BIOS can see it as SATA2 - nothing in the Device Manager, nothing in My Computer. Surely we can't still be in the situation where some optical drives don't work in SATA AHCI mode in 2016 ?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Clearly not understood by Oliver as he sold this product to me thinking it plays Bluray DVDs I bought this item 2 days ago and was over excited about it until I got it home. It wasn't until after I had spent time taking out my old CD drive and installed this drive and tried to play a Bluray that I found out this item doesn't play Bluray it only writes it. I had to purchase software to be able to play Bluray. This is a waist of money as it's not cheap although it fails to do what is required of it. The only reason I haven't bothered returning it is because it's hard work changing it over.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Ok for CDs and DVDs but wont successfully write to Blu Ray media I bought this Blu Ray rewriter to back up my docs and pictures to Blu Ray discs. Every single backup attempt failed when using Blu Ray media.

If this drive is installed in an external housing would it be possible to use with a laptop via a SATA to USB converter cable/device, to both record and paly Bue-ray discs. If so, does Maplin sell such a conversion cable, several in Internet?

How do I get this to work in SATA AHCI mode ? It only installs for me in an old PC which has SATA set to IDE emulation. If I put it in my newest PC with SATA set to AHCI, Windows doesn't find the device, even though the BIOS lists it.

Unfortunately we are unable to guarantee full compatibility for this item, as this is not the manner for which it was designed to be used.
