What can I expect from this router?
Whether you work in a busy office or access the Internet at home, the ASUS DSL-AC68 provides enough bandwidth for multiple wireless users via smartphones, tablets or laptops. Whilst wired connections provide stable connections for network heavy applications and file transfers.

What wireless performance can I expect from this router?
Three external antennas supply your home or office with 600Mbps 2.4GHz and 1300Mbps 5GHz frequencies. AiRadar technology from ASUS provides any devices connected to the router a directed WI-FI signal. This gives you a stable wireless connection that can support web access and media streaming to multiple portable devices. WPS encryption allows simple pairing of wireless devices to the router at the push of a button. Guest wireless access can be configured to allow your visitors to use the Internet, but keeping them separate from your main network or any other connected devices.

What wired connections can I expect from this router?
The ADSL/VDSL (RJ11) port allows you to attach this modem router directly to your phone line while the WAN/LAN (RJ45) port allows you to extend your network form a pre-existing network. Four gigabit Ethernet ports give you access to a fast and reliable wired connection, that can support large uninterrupted file transfers or gaming across your network. Included with the router is a USB 2.0 port for printer sharing or USB 3.0 port for network storage, enabling you to store and stream media across your network. Additionally you are able to attach a USB 3G or 4G dongle and share its internet connection, keeping you connected to the internet during any network outages

Can I use this router to manage my network?
ASUSWRT provides you with a graphical user interface, which allows you to view a map of your network via a web based program. This allows you to view ASUSWRT on portable devices, allocate network bandwidth and create profiles to prevent users from visiting listed websites, keeping your family or office network safe from potentially malicious content.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic router! I bought this to replace my TalkTalk VDSL router they sent me just before my fibre went live. I originally thought I'd have to tweak it a bit to get it to work with them, I was surprised to find out I needed just to tell the router I have fibre large from talktalk and that was it. I just left it to do its thing. Set up a few of my devices so that they get the same up address all the time and away it went. It's been running now for a few months and has not dropped the line, rebooted or stopped working for any reason. I love the remote features like updating the firmware anywhere. Also you can manage the devices remotely too. Blocking usage, setting bandwidth limits etc is easy. Again a fantastic router for any provider.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from A few days of avoidable frustration then success! I ordered this twice from Maplin as they had run out of stock the first time and could not re-order it internally. Weird. The second attempt got a very speedy delivery. I waited a few days to have the time to set the ASUS modem-router up. I failed to get it going at the first step so I then tried all sorts of things, all very sensible I later gathered but all failed. Routers need a username and password for the ADSL connection. I rang my ISP to ask what this was for their phone line and was told it was the name and password printed on the side of their router. So I used that but still there was something wrong and I could not get the internet connection. Eventually I rang Ben at ASUS's help desk and after a little over an hour of going round the houses, he advised me that the ADSL username and password were wrong. He said I should ring Sky to find out what they really were. I rang sky and the chap that answered claimed to be the broadband support manager but had no idea what 802.11 protocols were. He said that he could not give out their name and password as this would be providing support for third party equipment and this was contrary to company policy. Further he did not know what they were, nor did anyone else in Sky; he repeated that several times. He could not see that Sky's product was inferior because he did not understand the 802.11 protocols. He could not see why I wanted to upgrade Sky's router. After half an hour of getting nowhere I gave up. I contacted another ASUS man for assistance but he could only say that I should go back to Sky - and get more earache, NO. So I started to search for other people with the same problem and after an hour or so found what was the answer, that the username and password are contained within Sky's configuration files though the latter item was encoded by BASE 64. So I extracted them, copied the real thing into the ASUS Router and Bingo it worked. The only problem that remains is the gentle task of reconfiguring everything here to run on a different network address. But at least the internet is back and the wireless date transfer runs at well over 600 megabits per second, with a configured maximum of 1300, but reducing as you walk away from the router of course. What I would really have appreciated was a warning that some ISP (Internet Service Providers) would make things very difficult to use the new router and that if there was any problem, please get in touch with the Help Desk who could have the answers - as I've told them what to do if they did not know it. I also think Maplin should have included this warning within their sales info. I very nearly sent it back as not fit for the purpose. The vendors should know which ISPs cause trouble and should ask the modem-router purchasers which ISP they were using and then the vendor should tell them to get in touch immediately they were ready to install, if their ISP was one who caused trouble.

Will it pick up from a BT Hub to extend the wifi and if so what range will it broadcast over. (I have a netgear extender in an outside office and wish to pick up the signal on that from the ASUS device).

Asked by: Viggy
No this would not pick up WiFi to extend it.

What is the wifi range

Asked by: Snakebite
Data throughput, signal range, and wireless coverage per sq. ft. are not guaranteed and may vary due to differences in operating environments of wireless networks, including without limitation building materials and wireless interference
