  • Connect to your computer to record your data
  • Requires 5 x AA batteries

Product overview

• Wireless weather station allows you to check indoor and outdoor temperature, humidity, air pressure, wind speed, wind direction and rain fall
• Records a temperature range of 0°C - 60°C indoors and -40°C - 65°C outdoors so you can dress appropriately for the weather
• Wireless transmission range of up to 100m in a clear line of sight
• Connect to your computer to record your data so you can identify trends
• Requires five AA batteries

How does this weather station work?
The various sensors included with this weather station allow you to wirelessly transmit the data collected up to 100m to your base unit. This lets you know what the weather is like without even looking or going outside. The sensors and the base unit are battery powered, giving you a portable unit you can carry around the house with you.

What data can I view with this weather station?
You can view and record a variety of data with this weather station. This includes the indoor and outdoor temperature, the humidity and air pressure as well as wind speed and direction and rain fall. It is viewable on the base unit that comes in the package but can also be recorded and stored on a computer to look back on at a later date.

What advantage do I have connecting it to my computer?
By connecting the weather station to your computer with the included USB cable, you are able to save the gained data to identify trends and weather patterns throughout set timelines. You can show your data over a 24 hour period or longer in a graph form so you can see the varying factors of that timespan.

Can I buy spare sensors for this weather station?
There are a range of spare sensors available for this weather station. The links can be found below.
N77NF – Spare Rain Gauge
N78NF – Spare Steel Mast Tube
N80NF – Spare Transmitter (with built-in temperature and humidity sensor)
N81NF – Spare Wind Direction Sensor
N09QR – Spare Wind Speed Sensor

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Instruction Manual a disaster - probably the most frustrating one I've encountered in decades (and I'm an engineer - god help the less technical!). Also, not to include a mast or batteries is the height of meanness! Design-wise, there should be some means to turn off the LCD display, if only to enable the screen to be wiped clean occasionally from dust and fingerprints (it's a touch-screen, dammit, so cleaning/dusting sets it off on a reset sequence!). Also, some explanation of the tendency display and how it is programmed would be useful. Pretty basic gadget - a pity about the paperwork - wouldn't recommend it as a gift to anyone because of the impression created by the Instr Manual

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I originally purchased the cheaper unit without the wind direction but upon getting home and reading the reviews for this unit I went back and upgraded. It was easy to assemble and set up. The only place I could mount it was on the back of my garage so I had to purchase a small TV ariel wall bracket & longer pole to mount it on as I needed it to be above roof in clear air. The USB lead supplied is very short (about 1m) so it was necessary to purchase an extender. Thanks to another reviewer, I downloaded the Cumulus software from Sandaysoft and I have to say I find it better than the Easyweather software supplied but that could come down to personal preference. All in all, I would recommend this unit to anyone who is interested in the weather.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The system outdoor sensors are very easy to set up however i agree with the other reviewer that there appears to be far to much cable. I am a little concerned as the only way of making a neat job is to wind the cable around the mast several times perhaps weaking the structure? allow water to collect? The software supplied is disappointing as it does not allow easy manuplation of the graphs (axis etc.). very basic! after all the main purpose is to see how the weather has changed over time in nice graphical format. this is the main reason why the weather station does not get 5 stars. Will need to wait and see how the outside sensors cope with the winter weather.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I bought this unit in order to help me teach my kids about the weather. Very easy to set up, took about 15 mins. Only thing was i found i had an awful lot of excess on the connecting cables but better to have to much than too little. Will try both lots of software and see what i like best. Overall, buy this one at the price its a steal.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Its a good piece of kit. It can be awkward to set up and use with the 'touch screen'. It is almost impossible to clean as well withouth causing havoc! I notice that several posters note that the outside temperature reads seveal degees higher, this is due to the tastfull admialty pattern battleship grey of the mini stephenson screen / cover. I have repainted it white, and secure it to the mast using cable ties for outside use. I have found the rain guage to be inaccurate to a factor of 2. This is easily compensated for in the Cumulus configuration-calibration menus. This was found by comparing the rain guages readings with a simple glass measuring guage. Taken as a whole, a good piece of kit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Just bought a new one of these; the first one lasted years but finally outdoor relative humidity packed up and the transmitter unit started eating batteries -- new spare transmitter would not talk to my old base station -- shame, as the thing does a good job. A bit fiddly to set up and the instructions are not the clearest but, when you've got the hang of the way the base station works, the device functions well. PC software creates interesting records -- only the rainfall history is problematical -- seems to go on accumulating e.g. won't start a new month at zero (or am I missing a trick?). Tips: 1. Paint the louvred cover of the transmitter white or you'll get exaggerated outdoor temperature readings when there is not much wind and full sun. 2. Put some gauze or fine mesh over the drain holes in the rain gauge and block other holes on underside (e.g. Blutak) or spiders will get in there and tie the seesaw up.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pleased with this kit (bought at sale price) but agree with other reviewers that the instruction manual takes some work to interpret. But stick at it and youФЗЦll get it working smoothly! Highly recommend a good supply of weather-proof cable ties (so much surplus cable needs more than just a few ties to control) ФЗф and a TV aerial 6in wall bracket. DIY stores sell the latter for about ?ъ10 and will ensure the sensors are stable enough to get consistent readings. Use some offcuts of garden hose if the V-bolts don't grip fully. Also recommend you note which plug is for the rain sensor feed and which is for the wind feed before you bunch up the cables. The two plugs look remarkably similar afterwards!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Stops connecting to the base unit after a few minutes. Re-set the transmitter, and that only last a few minutes. For such an expensive item I would have expected better quality from Maplin. I will be returning it for a refund. There must be better units for sale out there for the same price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very easy to use. Once you have set it up using the supplied Easy Weather and set the sampling interval, I recommend using the free My Weather app. (Set it up to say that it is a Fine Offset weather station.) With that you get nice graphs and other goodies. You might need to fix it to a longer post.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very unreliable Now on my second weather station. As others have stated transmission and receiving is VERY hit and miss. The first station was replaced as signal was lost intermittently sometimes for minutes sometimes for days. The second station is now going the same way. I have borrowed a receiving unit from my son and placed it next to mine. His works consistently, but mine cuts out and loses all external transmitted information. Tried changing batteries and swapping between units but still with the same results. the fact that my sons receiving unit works consistently with my transmitter shows the problem again to be in my receiving unit. What, Maplin, is the issue. I would NOT recommend anyone to buy this product as its performance is so poor and intermittent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I'm completely new to the hobby of weather watching but thought it might be fun. Santa helped but selection of this model was very much done by size of box and the offer that Maplin were running on price. The unit was complete (includes cable ties), very easy to assemble and worked first time, which always bodes well. I ran it 'stand alone', taped on the greenhouse door frame for a couple of days. At low levels, the wind direction is very difficult to measure because of turbulence, so I recommend that you consider where you will finally install it to avoid disappointment. A few days later, I lifted it 30ft up on to my antenna mast, just clear of the roof and there it is today. At the start of January, it was subject to 50+ mph winds and 80mm rain in one day, without missing a beat. Although the supplied software is adequate, I've just downloaded another program which talks to this unit and in a couple of hours, have produced a very smart looking, real time, web site, driven directly from the sensor. Now I'm looking at the forums on the subject, it's clear that this unit is well priced and in quality terms fits at the top end of the entry level for weather stations. The more serious experimenter will need to pay around 5 times the price of this unit to get any better. I would recommend using alternative PC software if you want to share/publish your weather data, though. I'm impressed! John

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Given a weather Forcaster for Chistmas, found the screen dull and not easy to read also the wireless bit to the screen from the outside sensors has now packed up. I have checked batteries all ok still no responce.
Date published: 2014-11-11
Rated 3 out of 5 by from OK at a discount.... I have had this for about 3 years, having bought on special offer at below £ was fine for my purposes most of the time . However, the outdoor sensors only last a couple of years so have had to be replaced on a routine basis. That's OK as they cost from £5 (rain gauge) to £15 (temperature/data transmitter). But now the base station has failed and will not receive the outside data transmissions ( its definitely the base station as I replaced the outdoor data transmitter -again - with no result). You cant buy a replacement base station,so all its good for now is the internal data and atmospheric pressure. So not great value at full price - about £90.
Date published: 2018-03-15
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Have had it set up in the garden for about 3 weeks and now the connection to the base unit is really unreliable, meaning readings are often missed, specially during the night. It's not like it's very far away or anything. How can you keep max/min weather records if you don't know half the time what the max/min is because the equipment has lost the connection? In other words it doesn't work. The screen could be clearer too.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A fun bit of kit. Not particulary accurate, but perfectly usable. Did not have any problems with the anemometer bearing, but did modify the wind direction vane. Stuck a small plastic sheet extension to the existing vane, this stops it spinning round so much and gives a more consistent indication. Pressure, temperature and humidity agree to about 10% with another sensor unit I had. Rainfall seems to under-read by about 20-25%, but have not had much rain yet to really test it. Display unit looses reception for a few minutes every now and then, some other interference presumably. Mounted on top of a 3 mtr length of 4 x 2 timber attached to a fence. Drilled a hole perpendicular into one end face (22mm dia I think). I could then put the supplied mounting pole into the hole and raise the wind sensor to about 4 mtr above ground. The sensor leads are long, so the transmitter and rain gauge can be mounted lower down (have to clean out interior of rain gauge periodically - spiders like to nest in it !).

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Had the black version for Christmas setting up was ok . this is the worst bit , the screen is hardly visible seems like it's got a plastic film permanently on screen, when press the screen to see the back light so u can see it,it automatically goes into mode setting, biggest gripe you can't see it very we'll . Look for something else where the screen is clearly visible . Very poor

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I've checked out lots of weather stations and this is definitely the cheapest out of the professional variety which allow a permanent data connection to connect to a website or other logging. I agree with other reviewers that the precision on some instruments can leave something to be desired, but as noted, it isn't a scientific instrument. If you want that, you need to pay a few hundred pounds minimum. Mine has worked well for about a year using Cumulus software but then the USB port on the unit seemed to fail and I can't get any software to talk to it. The screen works fine, but I have now lost my weather data logger. :-(
Date published: 2014-11-11
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Well, I agree with some of the previous reviews. This is more a toy than a 'weather station'. I don't need to mention that is very (VERY) far of professional or scientific instrument. Why? because is totally unreliable. The accuracy is poor that it is utterly unreliable. When I said accuracy I mean every single measure (temperature -in-out, wind, rain, etc.etc) is unreliable. The manual does not deserve to be called as such. Now, having said that, you can have an approximation of what is going on (+/- 40%). In addition, it is a nice 'illusion of having a weather station' to see the anemometer and wind direction moving and spinning most of the time. Would I recommend this station? Even at reduced price is not value 4 money.
Date published: 2014-11-11
Rated 2 out of 5 by from I bought it to replace an existing W-8681 which had lost its wind speed and direction sensors after falling off its pole. Even though the picture on the website clearly shows a display marked "Radio Controlled", referring to the fact that it has a built-in DCF time receiver, I received a display marked WH-1081 and the outdoor transmitter clearly does not have a DCF time receiver (when the batteries are inserted, it gives one flash of the LED whereas one with a DCF receiver should give five flashes as it searches for the DCF signal). I definitely need the DCF clock. Radio amateurs beware! The WH1081 which I have received from Maplin operates on 433.900 MHz, which is bang in the middle of the 70cms amateur band - definitely not good news. It appears that other WH1080 models (WH1080PC) and my original W-8681 operate on 868.300 MHz - well out of any amateur band.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Largely Pleased Have had this unit for nearly 2 years now and I'm largely please with it.Had some teething troubles for the first few days until I realised that the base unit is fussy about where its located.Find where it likes to be and it works fine. The main problem is the wind gyro,it seems accurate only at lower speeds up to around 30mph although I have recorded a gust of 63mph. Outdoor temperature is about 1C too high during the day but overnight minimums seem more accurate. The rain gauge is excellent if mounted separate from the pole. The rain gauge failed a few months back but a replacement was only a few pounds,so no grumbles.
Date published: 2016-11-12
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Unreliable Bought this a few months back. The display has such poor contrast it can barely be read, the USB link from the display to the PC continually locks up meaning that you lose hours of data and finally after 3 months of use the rain gauge just stops working, which is something I see other people have also had trouble with. Mine has gone in the bin and I now have a brand new Oregon station which is immeasurably better. Don't waste your money,

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amateur Radio Weather Greetings, this is the 3rd winter using this weather station, the first lot of batteries lasted well over 18 months, which was a big suprise to me, I have replaced them with some high power units, the system is up at 20ft, and has no trouble at all, I have it connected to my laptop and it updates every 60 seconds to the Weather Underground and to the Met Office, I do maintain the units and check them after every winter and before every winter to make sure there is no damage and things have not come lose, I also use cumulus for the stations software, I prefer the look of it, for the money you cant really go wrong with this station, no, its not a Davies unit, that reflects in its price, I have no complaints with this item, its definately value for money, and I give it a 10/10..

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Unreliable I have had three of these now, as others have stated very unreliable. First unit stopped receiving signal from Transmitter. Second unit keeps losing USB Connection and has to be reset to get it working again. Plus it keeps giving odd readings like unrealistic temperatures and losing contact with Sensors.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I bought this as a Xmas present. Built it and put it up on Boxing day afternoon. The wind speed sensor lasted 3 days before it broke and the wind direction sensor lasted less than 3 weeks!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Touchscreen Weather Centre I purchased a weather centre and it was easy to set up and gives useful information. The battery claim seems ambitious. Using Maplin alkaline batteries I would suggest 3 months maximum. The anemometer seized up just after 12 months, however I managed to purchase and replace the bearing. Not bad for the money.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I have had this station for one year and the wind sensor has stopped turning, I have tried to get a replacement but have had no success. Apart from this the station has done everything it should do and I would give it 4 stars if I could get spares.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Working on all levels ,good value for money After a week on test,he new unit is working well ,with the transmitter positioned above the roof line.It also appears to work with new and old soft wear.I moved my old 4 yr transmitter to below the roof line on new locking system I made ,I found the unit started to play up.Now the new weather station transmitter is in a good position, it is just fine.I got the position of the first station right first time and so never had any troubles with old transmitter until moving it ,my house has a reflective foil brick for insulation in the build. This I feel stopped the transmitter signal getting to the base station. That is all sorted now and looking forward to years of good use with my New station.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Bought one of these a few months ago. There is a tendency for the data link to lock up. It's done it several times. The USB says it's connected in Easy Weather but no data gets transferred to the PC. I've tried it in Cumulus software as well. You have to disconnect the USB and remove the batteries to reset. Of course you then lose any data in the unit. On the plus side, I haven't experienced blocked drains in the rain gauge.
