Rated 4 out of 5 by from For the price, great. Does what is says. Had to trace over a hundred cables in amongst about 300. Made very short work of it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from BT came in and told us they would not support our current phone system, and we needed a new one. Bought this, traced the cables, moved some extensions to the right place, all in under 2 hours. The one limitation seems to be if you try and trace a live telephone extension the signal is attenuated to the point it is untraceable, but no one ever said it should do that, so it is not a fault, just something to be aware of.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Had this to trace about 100 cables which had been damaged by fire half way along their route back to the fuse board. Made short work of it and saved us a load of time.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from cheap for what it does, but low quality Bought to trace some phone cables on an old extension, it does what it says on the tin, but is let down by super low quality crocodile clips - the jaws misalign so badly on the one I had that they couldn't grip a telephone size wire at all, had to connect a different crock clip to the wire and attach the Vellman's clip to that, not ideal. Having said that, it is cheap for what it does, so shouldn't be surprised at the pretty low build quality. If you find the Fluke meters equivalent (OK, it has some other functions too), but it's about £300, not £30!

Doors this find cables that are not live ?

This is a network cable tester, it's for testing continuity and connectivity of network data cables. You attach the tone generator to the network cable and use the wand to trace it's route.
