What could I use this microphone with?
This microphone is fitted with a 3.5mm connector and is designed to connect directly to a video camera. The microphone will enable you to record high quality audio from a single direction while you record all of the action. Whether you are recording an event or an interview, this microphone will ensure all the audio is captured and with limited interference from background noise.

What is the advantage of having a condenser microphone?
Condenser microphones are the most common type of microphones for recording audio. They are often used in recording studios as they have a greater ability to reproduce all of the audio of an instrument or voice. Using phantom power from the 3.5mm socket, condenser microphones usually have a louder output but can be more sensitive to loud sounds.

What position does the condenser microphone pick up sound from?
This microphone is cardioid in design and will pick up audio from a single direction, limiting the amount of background noise it picks up. Designed to be connected to a video camera through a 3.5mm connector, it will help record a higher quality audio for your video recordings.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This product is disgraceful. The package quite clearly states that the microphone takes an LR44 battery. This battery in no way fitted in the slot and, of course, it didn't work. Then I noticed that there was a sticker on the back of the box where previous specifications had been covered - it states here that the battery is LR9! Which AGAIN is NOT true as this battery didn't fit the slot either. Now, I bought this piece of junk in-store. For whatever reason the battery is not included when you buy in-store, however when you buy online it says, "Powered from an included button cell battery (Replacement batteries: Order Code N08ED)". What is going on Maplins?! Sort yourselves out.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor results I bought this in the shop without reading the reviews. Big mistake. I tried a comparison between the internal microphone on my Canon 550D and using this microphone in Zoom mode. It's a mono microphone (this is not mentioned on the box, at least not in a language I understand) and so you hear this through only the left speaker, the raw output is much quieter then my camera microphone. I loaded the track into Audacity, turned the left track into a mono track and listened again. The volume was now pretty much the same but there was a persistent hiss not present with the camera microphone. Two lessons learned, 1) read the reviews, 2) if I want to seriously improve the sound from my camera, I'm going to have to spend more.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bought as an upgraded mic for my new Kodak Zi8 HD camcorder. Mic comes with a short and long lead (good) and a jack adaptor if needed. It also comes with 2xAAA batteries which are no use at all as it uses a button battery to make it work. Mic is mono only with a 3-position switch; off, cardoid, supercardoid. It is more correctly off, quiet, high pitched background whine. moderator note: the product description refers to the batteries required for the mic and the existing product FAQs advise that the mic is mono so customers are made aware of these two points prior to purchase

Rated 3 out of 5 by from So far, I have found this Zoom Condenser Microphone is reasonable value-for-money. Included in the box with the microphone is a mounting feature, which is attached to the microphone, by screwing it in. This mount can then be used to either screw it on to a standard tripod, or even fit the hotshoe of a camera/camcorder. From using this product, I can say that the audio quality is somewhat acceptable, though quiet, and with bit of white-noise. Matters of such are easily overcome-able with reasonable quality audio editing software. I would not recommend this microphone if you are expecting professional/studio quality results, but this product offers great value if you're working on a home/amateur/student production on a tight budget, and are willing to work a bit to get better results, with no immediate expectations of studio quality.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Assuming this is the EM-288, I've used two of them over several years as lectern microphones in tricky acoustic conditions in a hall. The microphone works very well in these conditions. I've also modified them so they can operate for much longer periods using a separate AAA battery pack, with power being fed down a modified cable. For voice, the quality is good. The supercardioid sensitivity allows use with a PA system in very echoic conditions.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Pros: the 'zoom' setting does a good job of removing noise from the side. It has an effective super cardiod pattern. Cons: it is really not very sensitive. It might do for a desk microphone or one where you are recording quite loud events but anything quiet and the results will not be as good as you might want. Having said that, to get anything much better will cost significantly more. Personally I'd start saving rather than get another one of these

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Quality Bought for my Canon 650D in order to do some video interviews and found it far inferior to the built-in mic. As mentioned quite often above - annoying loud 'hiss' sound in both modes, not made much better due to the fact it only records one audio channel. Built quality isn't too bad ,comes nicely packaged with some hand accessories (long cable) and hot shoe adapter. Unless your built in mic is terrible, steer well clear of this.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Took it back for a refund I want to record video interviews. I tried recording using this microphone with a GoPro Hero 3 and, when that didn't work, we tested it on our desk top computer. There was no discernible difference in the GoPro audio with or without the microphone. Plugged into the computer, it recorded something but it was barely audible.

Can it go on a go pro hero 5 black edition

Asked by: ChazMedia
Sorry but it's not really suitable for a GoPro GoPro hero 5 has no native support for 3.5 mm microphone input unless you buy an adaptor. Also the microphone typically mounts on a camera/camcorder body via a special sliding mount, Gopro does not have this mount.

Does this fit the Canon PowerShot SX410 20MP 40x Zoom Bridge Camera?

Asked by: Nsm23
This connects via 3.5mm jack connection, or 6.35mm jack with the included adapter. If your camera has a microphone input using either of those connections then it should be compatible.
