What is different about this IP camera?
An all-in-one home security system that keeps you safe, this IP camera from Canary lets you see what is happening in your home before giving you the opportunity to take action. It has a 1080p camera which captures every little detail, and with a 147 degree angle of coverage, you can be sure that this camera will catch anything suspicious. The camera also turns on night vision automatically, giving you peace of mind while you are asleep. An additional three cameras can be added to one location, so you can enhance your home security by increasing coverage.

What else can the camera do for me?
Aside from protecting you from burglars, this camera’s HomeHealth technology helps you monitor various aspects of your home, from air quality to temperature and humidity. This can help you understand how your home affects your health. It can also be used to let you know if you’ve left your oven on or if you have an air quality problem, like a gas leak. You can monitor this information from the dedicated Canary app, which is available for Apple iOS and Android devices.

When the camera senses anything out of the ordinary, it sends a notification with encrypted HD video and audio to your phone via the Canary app. Once you have seen this, if you deem it necessary you can sound the built-in 90 dB siren or contact local emergency services near your home. This keeps you up to date, so you don’t have to miss any potentially damaging situations. Via the app the camera can tell if you are at home or away, and automatically arms the camera when you leave your home. All of these features help to make the Canary IP the complete home security system.

Can I view the footage remotely?
Whether you are out and about, away at work or on holiday, you can view live footage from your camera via the Canary app. Footage is only captured after motion has been detected and saved online to the cloud (free access to the last 12 hours of footage is included), helping to save on valuable storage space. Securing video and data has been one of Canary’s priorities while designing this, so every single part of the system has extensive security measures in place to protect your data. The use of AES 256-bit symmetric-key encryption, Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), secure HTTP access (HTTPS) using TLS/SSL and more, demonstrates Canary’s commitment to security.

How easy is the camera to set up?
Not only is this camera a great all-in-one home security system, it is also very easy to set up. First, place the Canary in an area that an intruder will definitely pass by such as near the entrance. Next, plug it in and connect it to the internet using the free Apple iOS or Android app. For an extra layer of protection when you have other commitments, simply add more users, so that a notification never goes unseen.

How does the remote monitoring work?
Canary allows you to monitor your property remotely with free basic 24/7 live viewing on your smart device, motion activated previews, 24 hours of video storage and timeline, automatic arming/disarming, activity zone control, and one touch access to responders. This experience is free and comes with the basic features , if you want the full-fat experience you can upgrade to the complete experience which includes full length motion activated video alerts, 30 days of video storage/timeline, unlimited downloads of video to your camera roll, two-way Canary talk, desktop streaming, and custom modes for extra personalisation. The complete experience is great value compared to other smart monitoring brands and is perfect for you if you want to take your Canary device to the next level. You also have the option to subscribe annually and receive two months free!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great piece of kit! I received my first Canary recently and am amazed by the clarity of the video, both during the day and when it switches to night vision. As soon as we are are out of the house, it arms itself and alerts us if it detects any motion or activity, and it saves a video in the timeline with the motion detected. We haven't had a burglar (fortunately!), but have received notifications when a decorator was in our house - perfect! Do note that you need 'superfast broadband' for the video upload to work, it has a minimum 1MB/s requirement.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Good idea still in Development ... I watched the development of this CCTV camera in the USA, and once it was available here decided to try one out, sadly it has some good add ons from the usual IP CCTV cameras, but they are not all put to good use. I particularly wanted it to be armed at night while we slept, and to set of its alarm when triggered, also if fire is detected, these functions are built in but not available. Pro's Simple set up Well made. Good Heat, Air and Humidity monitoring and graphs.. Good wide angle and quality video Ability to zoom in video on viewing. Con's Slow to give warning when triggered sometimes fails if app freezes. Flashing lights on it, do not help find the cause of the fault. No Windows app to control it, so useless on a Windows phone. No emails with a photo when triggered. The Server seems overloaded and unreliable, too slow giving jerky video. Only the last 12hrs of video's kept FREE, very poor considering where this camera seems to be in its development. The App has been kept simple, with only three modes, more advanced options would allow you to use all the facilities, like auto siren alarm heat/movement trigger. Sadly I am considering returning my Canary, as it does not fullfill my expectations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing piece of kit I'd give this 6* if it was an option. So easy to set up (easier than an apple device) and so effective. I purchased to improve home security and have multiple devices around the house. Works so well and the picture is so clear on a smart phone. Extremely neat around the house and the app is extremely easy to use. So much better than a CCTV device. Could not recommend this product more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent. This device is awesome and the cameras clarity is exceptionally good. Looking at some of the negative views and I find them hard to believe. I have had mine about 18 months now and it has been absolutely flawless, yes I agree it probably could do a little bit more for the money but for me it works perfectly. Mine covers my front door and does exactly what I want it to do, the alarm is literally a couple of seconds off real time which is good enough. My opinion on poor performance is probably due to poor broadband service, mine is hard wired so that's why it's so good. I feel you get what you pay for, this is not cheap but it's a quality piece of kit and i personally would highly recommend the Canary.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works a treat! This is my first home cam and I was a little sceptical when I bought it but with the 30 day money-back guarantee, I went ahead. I am very pleased with it. The Canary cam is very easy to set up which was good as I'm not the best with anything that requires lots of wires or any complicated installation but the installation of the Canary Cam is very simple. First place it where you want and switch it on. Then download the App to your phone and follow the set up step by step instructions. The App will ask you to connect the yellow jack plug wire (included) between your phone and Cam so they can pair with each other and thats it. You can then go in and look at the Cam view at any time and you can arm and disarm it as you please. It will send you an alert if there is any disturbance or movement and you can just View Live to see whats going on. It also monitors room temp and air quality so if theres a fire you should know about it fairly fast. It has a high pitch alarm you can activate and looks like a small speaker. You cant make out the cam lens unless you go up really close so its fairly discreet to a would be intruder. It doesnt have a battery back up in case of power failure and of course it relies on a broadband connection. The basic plan that sends you alerts and saves video footage suits me just fine but you can upgrade to yearly price plans if you want to save lots of footage. I might get another one for another area of the house as you can have up to four. I got very good customer service at the Maplins in Beckton who helped me choose this particular cam when I told them what I wanted it for and that I wanted a simple set up. Highly recommended!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great when it works!!!! I was told that it works via 3/4g as well as wifi as previous cameras only worked over wifi but it doesn't connect every time. When it does it's brilliant, fantastic picture and sound quality but what's the point if it when you get a movement notification and then when you go to view live pictures it will not connect!!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent all rounder I bought my first Canary back in January this year (2016) I found it very simple and intuitive to set up and linked it to my iPhone. I have it set up in my office at home that contains two computers hence I like to know they are safe whilst I am away. The wide angle of view of the Canary is excellent and covers the whole room. I can also pinch and zoom in on my iPhone if needed. The unit just looks like an ornament and it is not obvious that it is a security camera. Saying that, at night when the night sensor lights are showing, it is a bit of a giveaway but that's a small price to pay. I was recently in Canada and the USA and was able to view the room at home with ease. The cost of the unit is very reasonable in comparison to similar cameras but the peace of mind it gives is invaluable. When I went away before , I used to return hoping everything was still where I left it! Now I can check every day from anywhere in the world if I so desired and I have to say that I do so quite often. On one occasion when at home I viewed the camera from home and found the picture just kept coming and going and only gave a still image. I rang the helpline and explained my concerns. Their response was very polite and helpful. Their first solution solved the problem. I did a speedcheck on my internet speed which normally runs at 100+ mbps. It was running at 1.8 mbps. I contacted Virgin who put it right and the camera was working again perfectly. By the way, the view I get on my phone is very clear and detailed. I love it so much that I have just ordered my second and will probably take it up to the max of 4 within time and as the needs arise. In my subjective opinion, the only problem you will have with this camera is if you don't get one. As previously mentioned, the peace of mind is invaluable. I also use it to view two baby tortoises I have in a vivarium which I have to say is more fun than a security issue. In a word - EXCELLENT

Rated 1 out of 5 by from So unreliable Been struggling for ages It remains very unreliable and certainly can't count on its protection. Night mode, settings have no resemblance to the report. Video is very slow. It seems paying a membership would be good (on going) money after bad.

What is the furthest distance you can have between WiFi connection and canary before connection is lost?

Asked by: MrsN
This will depend how strong the WiFi is in the house, an easy way to test this is with a mobile phone on WiFi and check show strong the signal is where you intend to place the cam.
