What can I use this microscope for?
Want to start exploring the world around you? This microscope will give you a new perspective on the finer details. Whether you’re a budding scientist or an old-hand, this microscope gives you great images of all your samples and is loads of fun for everyone aged 14 and over. With a 10-20x magnification eyepiece, three different objective lenses and two LED light sources, you can get the ideal view for anything from parts of plants to insects and animals. You can even see what you can discover about everyday objects like clothes or notes.

How do I magnify with this microscope?
To study your sample, set up the microscope and start at the lowest magnification - 10x magnification on the eyepiece and 4x on the objective lens. When you can clearly see the area you want to look at, increase the magnification to see more details. The three optical lenses are 4x, 15x and 30x magnification and you can derive your total magnification by multiplying the eyepiece’s magnification by the objective lens’ magnification – for example, a 20x eyepiece with a 15x objective lens gives you a 300x overall magnification.

Remember that bigger isn’t always better, and you may find that lower magnifications give you a better picture - as there is more light used and a bigger section of your sample to see. There are two light sources - one pointed at the sample (2 x AAA batteries required Order Code L42AL), and one underneath it (2 x AA batteries required Order Code L43AL). You can adjust the light level and use the diffuser to get a perfect light level for your sample.

What comes with the microscope?
All you need to get started with this microscope is batteries. There are three prepared slides for you to practice with, and three unprepared slides for you to create your own samples for.

The three included specimens can be prepared for the blank slides, if you don’t find anything to magnify. Use the included tweezers, needle probe and eye dropper to set up your samples and create your own slides. The two blank slides are for solid objects, and the hole (or well) slide can be used for liquids. You can find interesting samples in the world around you and discover amazing things in the most surprising places – experiment and see what you can find.
