Will these radios be effective in closed conditions?
These two-way radios reach their maximum 5km range in open conditions. However, they are also very effective if there are obstacles between the transmission range. The units have 8 channels each and are simple and easy to use perfect for family trips. Roger beeps can used to give a bleep after you’ve finished talking to let other know its fine to talk. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Did the job nicely Bought these units as an economic tool for a specific application. To communicate between 2 groups in cars while touring the Highlands & Islands of Scotland, and motorway travelling to and from. They did the job with no problem. Range car-car, easily 1/4 mile from inside car windows closed, but got up to 11/2 miles operated by open window. Range outdoors was better than expected, 5 miles regularly, especially along/across Lochs and open water. Only downsides were:- 1 - short(ish) battery life of the supplied 300mAh ones, even with limited use. (spotted this during pre-trip trials and it was a pain to keep swapping the car USB port between equipment for charging). I swapped them out for 750mAh ones, that I had on hand, which lasted all day and recharged them every night. 2- operating instructions fairly useless.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great little walkie-talkie, but range is only around 100m Great sound quality, and mini size is perfect for my six year old daughter. We have great fun playing with this in the garden and on country walks. But forget about claimed 3km range. It works to the end of a long garden just fine, but loses the signal once I'm out of the gate.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product Bought the Cobra walkie talkies so my disabled wife can get hold of me when I am in my workshop at the end of the garden. They work very well with clear sound. Like them being rechargeable which saves on batteries. Looked at cheaper one's but these were worth paying extra for.

My husband has parkinsons and alzheimers. We need radios which are very simple to use. Does he have to hold down a button while he talks and then release it to hear my reply? What does he have to do to call me?

Asked by: Julia
All radios of this type will have the same basic functionality and have to be "keyed" (hold down transmit key or button) to operate , hold down the transmit button to talk, let go to listen. You can get radios with "VOX" functionality which when enabled detects that you are speaking and transmits. an example of a radio with vox can be found below.

These have just been bought for me. They are to be used sporadically all day (8am-6pm). 1. Will the batteries last that long. 2. How long will it take to recharge the batteries through a PC. 3. Will overnight charging damage the batteries

Asked by: BWWC
The batteries will last for those hours yes. The units are better charged from a wall socket. These can be charged overnight, as with all batteries and chargers, Unfortunately we are unable to guarantee this may or may not damage the batteries over a period of time. I am sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you.
