Where would I use these PMRs?
Whether you’re at a festival or hiking in the country, keep in touch with these Cobra MT645 two-way radios. These PMR 446 radios use the 446 MHz frequency band for communication between the four units. With up to 8km range in open conditions, these radios are powerful units with no need for a licence or call plan. Backlit LED screens let you see what you’re doing in the dark. They even come with a clip to secure the radios to your belt. For more covert conversations or just to cut down the ambient noise, the MT645 units can be attached to a compatible headset.

Will these radios be effective in closed conditions?
These two-way radios reach their maximum 8km range in open conditions. Even with obstacles between the units, they will provide effective communication. Cobra estimates that in ideal conditions, the MT645 will transmit up to approximately km in a hilly location and up to approximately km in a built-up city. A great radio for festivals, shops or walking with.

How many frequencies do these two-way radios have?

Never struggle for a clear frequency – each unit has 8 channels which have 121 privacy codes for a total of 968 privacy combinations. Comes with voice activated transmission (VOX) for hands free transmissions. Roger beeps can used to give a bleep after you’ve finished talking to let others know its fine to talk and can be switched or off. Using key lock, you won’t need to worry about accidentally changing your channel and missing a message.

How do I charge my radios?
The radios have a microUSB charging socket and come with a lead to charge the radios from a USB socket (socket not included). At a festival with no access to mains power? No worries, just replace the batteries with alkaline AA batteries(not included) and keep going. You can even charge the handsets from a USB car accessory socket adapter (not included Order Code N78EA)as well as mains USB socket adapters (not included Order Code N22NC). The handset includes a battery level indicator so you should always know how much battery you have left. The MT645 has a power saving mode so it can run for up to 8 hours on a full charge and up to 24 hours on standby.

These two-way radios are compatible with most PMR 446 units with the same channel and privacy combinations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I originally purchased the cobra mt600 pmr's from maplins and they worked great but lacked some basic features like on screen battery monitor, usb port, and you can't turn key tones off, so I exchanged for the cobra mt645 quad pack instead and they have all the extra functionality I need.i have used these mt645's all over from built up housing estate's to open land and can confirm I have so far had a max range of just under 4 miles with excellent sound quality on tx and rx out in the open and about half a mile in built up areas. These radios are brilliant for what they are and I highly recommend them! Thanks maplin!

How many charging cables come with the Quad Pack? I will need one for each radio. So if the pack does not come with 4 can you buy these?

Asked by: FHCS
The cables included with this are USB to 2 x microUSB x 2. This will be a single USB port splitting off in to 2 micro USB connectors to charge two of the radios.

do these work with the (Helmet Speaker and Microphone Kit Code: DS34M) kit or does it only work with cobra headsets?

Asked by: brad
Cobra radios use a single plug for headsets. DS34M uses the twin "Kenwood" style connector. You can use these radios with a helmet kit, just not that one ... you would need http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/cobra-pmr-full-face-helmet-headset-kit-n70kb

Approximately how long do the batteries or the charge last with average use?

Asked by: brookesdj15
The included batteries would be enough to run for a full day of standard use, however increased use or prolonged use of VOX settings may reduce this charge life. Standard AA batteries can be used in place of the rechargeable, however we would stress not to connect these to the charging circuit while fitted with non-rechargeable batteries.
