Where would I use these PMRs?
Whether you’re organising an event in town, climbing Mount Snowdon or going skiing in the Alps, keep in touch with these Cobra MT975 two way radios. Theses PMR 446 radios use the 446 MHz frequency band for communication between the four units. With up to 12km range in open conditions, these radios are powerful units with no need for a licence or call plan. Backlit LED screens let you see what you’re doing in the dark. They even come with a clip to secure the radios to your belt.

As well as outdoor sports and security, use these radios around the home when gardening or pottering in the shed. They can even be used as a baby monitor: in this mode, the PMR will let you monitor whenever it detects sound. The MT975 units can be attached to a compatible headset to prevent being overheard.

Will these radios be effective in closed conditions?
These two way radios reach their maximum 12km range in open conditions. However, they are also very effective if there are obstacles between the transmission range. Cobra estimates that in ideal conditions, the MT975 will transmit up to approximately 6km in a hilly location and up to approximately 2km in a built-up city. This means these radios are suitable for mountain-based outdoor pursuits like skiing as well as more urban uses.

How many frequencies does this 2 way radio have?
Never struggle for a clear frequency – each unit has 8 channels which have 121 privacy codes for a total of 968 privacy combinations. Comes with voice activated transmission (VOX) for hands free transmissions and VibrAlert to give a vibrating alert in a noisy environment. Roger beeps can used to give a bleep after you’ve finished talking to let other know its fine to talk and can be switched or off. Using key lock, you won’t need to worry about accidentally changing your channel and missing a message.

How do I charge my radios?
When you've finished using them just set the units in the mains powered charging dock and let the supplied rechargeable batteries replenish themselves. At a festival with no access to mains power? No worries, just replace the batteries with alkaline AAA batteries and keep going (spare rechargeable batteries are also available Order Code N69EC).

Don’t get caught out with the battery level meter in on the LCD screen and battery power saver to extend the battery life. The MT975 can do up to 8 hours on a full charge and up to 24 hours on standby.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Used as a carer/invalid call device, these work perfectly, with a good range. Many more features than I currently need but worth investigating later. Battery life is a bit low for constant use and the charger makes the batteries very hot >50??C, if left charging for 2 hours or more. My answer is two sets of spare batteries i.e. 8 x AAA NiMH recharged through a lower rate charger.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from used four of these handsets to good effect at Glastonbury and Priddy Folk Festival, lasting about four days on 1 charge, on standby for 12 hours a day with sporadic talk. Range covered the site at least, and in one instance 1 1/2 miles from inside a stone cottage with thick walls. Once the 4th battery bar goes, the others follow fairly rapidly, but recover if switched off for a while.

Could you confirm these are not press button to talk radios? If the correct plug was used could a headset with 400 ohm headphones (in mono) and a 200 ohm mic be used with these? If so what is the correct plug for a headset?

Asked by: Meow Sound
As with any 2 way radio you normally have to press and hold the transmit button whilst talking. You can use the device in VOX mode where the transmit is voice activated. I cannot say if the headset you have will work but this one certainly will however it still has a PTT (push to talk) button which has to be pressed if you wish to talk to other radios.

Hi, Our site is not level. It has a rolling fields but the area is within a 2km diameter. Will these radios be able to work over undulating land? Many thanks, Darren

Asked by: Anonymous
It would depend on how severe the undulation is, but with a maximum range of 12km they should cover 2km in a city type environment, so should be fine for hilly terrain.

What is the 120g weight for? What is the weight of the package?

Asked by: Michael
It is the weight of a single PMR from the pack, so you have an idea of how heavy the item is to carry around. The full package weight is Weight (g) 816.00.
