Where would I use these PMRs?
Whether you’re organising an event in town, climbing Mount Snowdon or going skiing in the Alps, keep in touch with these Cobra MT975 two way radios. Theses PMR 446 radios use the 446 MHz frequency band for communication between the two units. With up to 12km range in open conditions, these radios are powerful units with no need for a licence or call plan. Backlit LED screens let you see what you’re doing in the dark. They even come with a clip to secure the radios to your belt.

As well as outdoor sports and security, use these radios around the home when gardening or pottering in the shed. They can even be used as a baby monitor: in this mode, the PMR will let you monitor whenever it detects sound. The MT975 units can be attached to a compatible headset to prevent being overheard.

Will these radios be effective in closed conditions?
These two way radios reach their maximum 12km range in open conditions. However, they are also very effective if there are obstacles between the transmission range. Cobra estimates that in ideal conditions, the MT975 will transmit up to approximately 6km in a hilly location and up to approximately 2km in a built-up city. This means these radios are suitable for mountain-based outdoor pursuits like skiing as well as more urban uses.

How many frequencies does this 2 way radio have?
Never struggle for a clear frequency – each unit has 8 channels which have 121 privacy codes for a total of 968 privacy combinations. Comes with voice activated transmission (VOX) for hands free transmissions and VibrAlert to give a vibrating alert in a noisy environment. Roger beeps can used to give a bleep after you’ve finished talking to let other know its fine to talk and can be switched or off. Using key lock, you won’t need to worry about accidentally changing your channel and missing a message.

How do I charge my radios?
When you've finished using them just set the units in the mains powered charging dock and let the supplied rechargeable batteries replenish themselves. At a festival with no access to mains power? No worries, just replace the batteries with alkaline AAA batteriesN69EC).

Don’t get caught out with the battery level meter in on the LCD screen and battery power saver to extend the battery life. The MT975 can do up to 8 hours on a full charge and up to 24 hours on standby.

This two-way radio is compatible with most PMR 446 with the same channel and privacy combinations:

Rated 5 out of 5 by from bought these o few months ago. Have not got anywhere close to 12km range but did not expect to! But in the Scotish highlands whilst hill walking have found them to work brilliantly up to about 5km and I was not in line of site. Have also used them to stay in contact from sons house to home indoors about 0.8km again not line of sight and again crystal clear comunication. Great value.

This Question only to be answered by Maplin staff please: RE- Cobra MT975: how long do these radios take to charge from flat? this information is not available in the user manual.

Asked by: T2 tim
This would depend on the capacity of the batteries that are used with the radios. We do not have an approximate charge time available.

Does this work with the cobra PMR full face helmet headset kit you sell ? Or the helmet speaker and microphone kit code: DS34M you also sell ?

Asked by: Brad
You would need this kit for cobra radios . http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/cobra-pmr-full-face-helmet-headset-kit-n70kb make sure you plug it into the input on the side .. not the top (common mistake)

Is there a compatible 12v charger for use in a motor vehicle please?

On this occasion Maplin do not stock a product that exactly meets your requirements, or indeed anything close enough to offer you as an alternative.

Are there any headsets that can be used with these, that still allow the VOX system ( voice activation) to be used?

Asked by: Jeepster1
You cannot use the VOX function whilst using a headset as the PTT (Push to talk) takes priority.

Does the VOX mean I can use one of these hands free in the car? How could I hold a conversation like this with one other of these?

Asked by: The Caravanner
VOX (Voice Activated Transmission) The User’s voice is detected and the radio transmits without the need to press any buttons, freeing the user’s hands for other tasks. 5 VOX sensitivity levels allow user to select at which point the radio will detect their voice. If both units are on vox and the other user began to speak it would blank out the incoming transmission just as if you had pressed the transmit button.
