More than just a clock
Make sure you’re always on time by building this fun robot alarm clock (model number 38816N) with 26 parts. When you’re done set your alarm and sleep soundly knowing exactly what’s going on inside. Your robot can even hold a pen (not included) and comes with a memo pad to leave yourself reminders.

Learn about electrical circuits
Learn how a digital alarm clock is made up. Build your robot and wire up the alarm buzzer and clock face inside it. Unlike analogue clocks with hands, modules and large faces digital clocks take up very little space. This is because they use a quartz crystal in the heart of the mechanism. When electricity is run across the crystal it oscillates at a fixed rate like a pendulum swinging on a grandfather clock and this is what allows it to keep time.

Build with Connex
No soldering is required with this kit, all the components can be connected using the supplied wires fitting into the springs on the board. No need to worry about losing pieces, the kit comes in a box that doubles as a base to assemble the kit on and a storage box when you tidy it away. This kit requires one AA battery (sold separately Order Code <L43AL>).

N.B. This kit should be used with adult supervision and assistance and is suitable for children aged 8+.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from You aren't just buying a toy. This was bought for my daughters 8th birthday as she has taken a keen interest in electronics recently. Out of the box it is a bit fiddly to get together. Just when you get the legs on the arm falls off! After a bit of frustration and alot of patience getting the bear together and in position, you then start to wire it up. The instructions are fairly easy to follow with plenty of pictures. My only issue is the lack of a proper circuit diagram. The wires connect with springs that you slot into the Base. It took my daughter 2 attempts and 25 minutes before we saw the display come to life. After that it's just a case of using the secondary instructions to set the right time and alarm. Overall, this was well worth the money. Yes, you could buy a fancy robot/alarm clock for the same money but that's not what this product is about. It's the sense of achievement, the confidence boost and the immense pride my little budding physicist got that makes this wee kit worth the money. Thank-you Maplin, for planting an educational seed in the mind of my youngest daughter.
