Is this powerline kit right for me?
This powerline kit will give you a transfer speed of up to 500Mbps between the two plugs and includes everything that you will need in the box. The kit is simple to use – its plug and play feature means that you can quickly plug in the powerline adapters, connecting one to your router and the other to your networked device, and setup is complete. The included network socket will allow you to connect your laptop, desktop PC, games console, smart TV, networked hard drive or other networked device directly to your internet without any additional equipment.

How does the built-in Wi-Fi work?
The built-in wireless hotspot outputs a B, G and N signal – which gives your wireless devices speeds of up to 300Mbps, depending on signal strength and obstacles such as walls. This will give you an improved transfer speed over Wi-Fi and improve your online experience.

How could I use this powerline kit?
This powerline kit is designed for one plug to connect directly to your network router while the other is connected to a networked device. Compatible network devices include laptops, PCs, gaming consoles, smart TVs, network hard drives, media players and CCTV kits. The kit allows your devices to connect directly to the internet without using long network cables. Additional receivers, including receivers that give a wireless signal, are sold separately and can connect additional devices to your router. For the best results, choose a powerline receiver capable of sending up to 500Mbps.

How does powerline work?
Powerline technology transfers data using the electrical wiring of the household. A single powerline plug is connected directly to a router and plugged into a mains socket. This plug then communicates to all of the other plugs on to the same electricity supply. This kit comes with a single powerline plug that connects to a router, and another plug that will connect to your networked device and allow it to communicate with your router over the mains. The powerline adapters will communicate with each other when connected directly to mains sockets on the same fuse board.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from At Last A wifi extender that takes literally two minutes to set up, works first time out of the box, does not drop out or have periods reduced signal strength, in short absolutely fantastic. This review concerns a three hundred year old house with walls two feet thick and despite all that the rooms which before had such poor wifi even using a rival companies extender it drove us to distraction are now superb. Cannot praise this kit enough, if you want the absolute best, this has to be it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from for a year I already had the Devolo DLan 85 powerline unit which is excellent. While the Devolo 500 may claim to be faster the range is not so good but at least it has two units at the other end which will work seamlessly between each other. Each unit will cover one room but not a lot more.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best way to get wifi full stop. I tried everything to extend the wifi range in an old property and it was always the same - ip conflicts, dropped signal - this would normally happen after a few days. I went to Maplins and they told be about the devolo and how it was clever and had patented it technology (which found the best way to use your electrical cabling) and not just the direct route. In a nutshell it's the bees knees and works brilliant - period. Now, that being said - it comes with a manual that really, really needs to be simplified. Here's the easy set up guide. 1. Take the base plug and stick it in socket near the hub 2. Put the supplied ethernet cable between the base plug and hub 3. stick your two wifi plugs wherever your wifi is poor 4. press the house button on your base plug then the two wifi (everything has to be plugged in) 5. Stick the CD into a PC 6. open the cockpit software - click add adaptor - change the passwords etc - bingo 7. Throw the manual at the moon

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very impressed I've got one master Devolo dlan 500mb device driving 5 slave Wi-Fi devices in a rather complicated house and they work very well giving seamless Wi-Fi everywhere. I can walk around the house streaming BBC news to my smartphone without interruption. The Devolo network claims between 120 and 170 Mbs to each device. Smart phones generally claim a 65Mb Wi-Fi connection. Very happy and recommending to friends and family. The network re-establishes it self automatically after a power outage.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not Easy!!! Bought this product and have spent 6 weeks (!!) trying to install it. Documentation in the box is USELESS! I am not a techie, but I am computer literate and I followed the instructions exactly. Didn't work. Contacted Devolo Support (in Germany) Response was fast but not useful. The information they sent was not useful. In desperation contacted Maplin. Most helpful and the product was working in no time. Wish I had done that first instead of struggling. Product is a nightmare to install.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The solution I purchased this to replace the black 'geek- designed' BT broadband extender flex 500/WiFi home extender hotspot 500, which are bulky and have ethernet sockets on the top. What you get are 3 sleek white plugs, with ethernet ports underneath! The initial setup should be done in one room; thereafter you can move the extenders to remote locations. I have got a solid single logon (unlike with BT)wireless network, running at least 7 devices. I am at last able to walk throughout the house, without any signal dropout! I am so happy, especially as my wife hated the black BT plugs!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works a treat I bought this to allow wifi connection to my "summer house / man cave" at the top of my garden. Router is at front of house, cave approx 150ft away at top of garden. Using the mains earth line, mine goes via 3 seperate fuse boxes/breakers on seperate sides of one of the boards and works a treat! I actually pick up the garden wifi from the front of the house, so much better range than router! Very easy set up, but if you're worried, either ask on line or in store at Maplin. Worth every penny!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works perfectly, easy install! I have installed these units in clone mode using the WPS button on my router, the whole process took 10 minutes and I didn't need to add new passwords to my devices. The wifi on my iPad takes seconds to move to the local transmitter and is 100% seamless, I installed two transmitters and now have excellent signal in my house and garden. A very good buy!

does this use powerline to get the connection to the extender, then the wifi is local to the extender? or do you still need to be in range of the router? or is there something more suited ?

Asked by: jayson
The device utilises powerline technology to get the network signal to the 2 wi-fi boosters, these then broadcast their own Wi-Fi hotspot.
