What makes this different from the mini sound level meter?
This sound level meter offers a greater pickup range of sound than the miniature version. It also has two frequency weighting options which give two different types of measuring sound levels. ‘A’ frequency weighting is designed to reflect the response of the human ear, whereas ‘C’ weighting is more commonly used for the measurement of peak sound pressure levels.

What would I use this meter for?
This meter is ideal for use in environments where noise could be a danger to health and safety. You could use it on construction sites where heavy duty tools such as jackhammers are in operation, or at busy airports to show that ear protection is needed in these areas.

How easy is this meter to use?
This sound level meter has been designed with ease of use in mind. Simply press the power button and the meter gives you an instant reading that constantly updates every 0.5 seconds.

How accurate is the sound meter?
This sound level meter comes with a 3.5 digit, large LCD display with 0.1 resolution and is accurate to approximately ±3.5dB.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from as a low cost sound measurement instrument, this has certainly paid for itself many times over. tested it against other, more expensive equipment and performance was more than acceptable.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Light compact, looks professional I bought this item to check noise level of lift in adjacent apartment, it worked well and did not fluctuate between readings

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Upside down. This product is almost perfect for my needs except I need to take measurements with the product some feet away from me with it facing in the opposite direction. I cannot read the numbers upside down. I need a screen which has an alternating option.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product It does what it says on the package. However not sure about dBC range, always comes high even when it is quiet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value, simple to use noise monitor! My company required a basic sound level meter to carry out some noise level checks as we were working in a noise sensitive area within an airport. I chose the Standard ST-805 as it had good reviews and was very well priced. It arrived very quickly by courier and has proven very simple to use. Very happy with this purchase and would definitely recommend Maplin as a retailer.

As already asked, what is the frequency response of this thing?  NOT amplitude in dB.  We're looking for an answer in Hz!! i.e 35Hz - 8kHz??

Asked by: ralphonz
All I can find from the information available is that the frequency range is 31.5Hz- 8KHz, from page 2 of the manual. Nothing further has been provided.

Can I use this for home theater speaker calibration?

Asked by: Jarvis
The meter will provide acoustic data for whatever location you place it at. If that location happens to be each of the speakers in a home theatre configuration and you are aware of how to process this data then you should be able to carry out any necessary adjustment and or calibration.

DO you supply a calibration component for this meter?

Asked by: Paulmcc
Sorry we do not. The devices are calibrated at factory by the manufacturer, no certification is supplied. If you need the device calibrating and certifying then you would need to contract the services of a specialist calibration service provider.

On this occasion Maplin do not stock a product that exactly meets your requirements, or indeed anything close enough to offer you as an alternative.
