How do I get the most out of my door & window contact alarm?
The best areas the contact alarm should be placed on any main points of access in and around the home for example front and back doors, ground floor windows and accessible window or external door. The siren goes off as soon as the window or door is opened once armed giving peace of mind whilst you’re out and about.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't buy this product Mini Alert Alarm - Maplin Code VH85G I purchased two of these products a day or so ago. Maplin’s order processing and delivery service is superb - the same cannot be said for the product. It's cheaply manufactured of thin plastic construction. It takes two AAA batteries which for me was a good thing as I didn't want a similar unit that used watch type batteries. The two items in the package - the alarm which uses a magnet switch and a magnetic both use a peel off sticky pad means of fixing both items. So I peel off the protective layer to reveal the sticky surface so that I can mount the alarm unit taking into account the location of the magnet. I fix the alarm item to an internal door frame and the magnet to the door. The alarm item sticks to the door frame for approximately 2 minutes and then crashes to the floor spewing out the batteries etc. It would seem the sticky pad didn't stick too well to the gloss painted door frame. So it's USELESS. I luckily also purchased with the same order another Door Alarm product from Maplin Maplin Code: VH88V [same price] which uses screws to fix both alarm items and will be using these items to finish this job off. To conclude I honestly do not recommend this Mini Alert Alarm product Code: VH85G – I recommend you purchase the Door Alarm Code VH88V product - it operates the same way as the Mini Alert Alarm but is substantially better made and uses screws not sticky pads to install the product. The major issue with the Mini Alert Alarm - Maplin Code VH85G product is the use of sticky pads and potentially the extra weight of the two AAA batteries makes this product fail I shall be returning the two Mini Alert Alarm - Maplin Code VH85G items for a refund.

How does the alarm work?
Asked by: Bob
It uses a magnetic contact when the contact is moved away i.e door is opened the magnetic field is broken and the alarm sounds.

does this work like a magnetic switch, and when you move the other magnetised part away from the main part the switch stops been attracted to the magnet part and switches on?

Yes the product does support that.

Would this alarm work on a window if a burglar smashed the window and did not open it?
Asked by: chrissie
The unit works via the opening of the window so this is unlikely (but I would have thought the loud sound of smashing glass would be a detectable sound instead of the alam in this case).

Q1 The door I want to fit this alarm to opens into the room I need to exit after setting the alarm. Can I switch the "on" switch on, then close the door to set the alarm or do you have to close the door first before switching on the alarm? Obviously, if the latter, then I am IN the room after setting the alarm. Q2 If you open the door (when the alarm is set) so that the alarm sounds, will the alarm then stop sounding when you then close the door, or will it continue sounding for a period of time? Many thanks.
Asked by: tim richardson
This will sound continuously whenever the door is open.
