Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just got this and the offline copy mode does a perfect job of imaging a SATA Disc to another, no PC connection needed, Partition sizes remain identical so you will need to use a Partition management tool to change sizes if upgrading to a larger disc after its created your copy. Installation a breeze ( Plug and Play XP). Build quality is functional rather than outstanding but after the hassle I have had trying to use Ghost to copy a hard drive this would have saved me the 2 days I have waisted on software that made me think the new drive was at fault. The additional features are a bonus, 2 port usb hub, card reader, Sim reader, bluetooth dongle, but am so relieved the investment has worked so well for the one use I wanted I am making the effort of writing this review. Thoroughly recommended!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Bought one of these because of the good reviews, however I think it's not very well engineered, has anyone used the sim card reader yet? I found it was 'hit and miss' as sometimes it wouldn't detect the same sim card, and it's difficult to insert, on the first one I purchased from Maplin, the sim card went all of the way in and ended up rattling about inside the unit, perhaps if this sim card reader was like that of a mobile phone sim holder it would have been a lot better, other than that, the unit works well.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from No Serial Number for Software and Doesn't Recognise Drives or SDs in Reader I just bought one of these units today. Firstly, I came to install some of the "Clone" software, and it needs a serial. You look all over the packaging and device, CD, paperwork, instruction manual, outside of box, underside of cardboard sleeve it comes in... No serial number anywhere. Doing a Google search suggests this isn't unusual. However: the Serial displayed prolifically around the Net doesn't work for me. So what: you can clone HDDs without the software, and do it "offline"... so no big deal. Insert all my old drives that I knew were last working when I had them connected. Nothing shows up. Insert NEW drives just out of packaging. Nothing shows up. Take out an existing warm drive and pop it in. Nothing shows up. Ho-hum. Just out of curiosity... does it recognise as SD card that works everywhere else today? Nope - that doesn't work either! LOL Dead as a dodo. However: it does give me flashing lights that it's connected to a USB 3.0 instead of a USB 2.0 (separate lights), and it does show that a drive is plugged in (green light). However, I have plenty of other flashing lights to amuse me. This product just doesn't. Will be returning and grumbling tomorrow.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Update! I had a very helpful email from Maplin customer services which suggested that there was probably a fault with the unit I had purchased. I therefore visited a Maplin store and exchanged it without any difficulty. However I had the same problem with the replacement unit. When rebooting with the USB cable plugged as well as the Esata connection the system treated both the drives as USB drives and not as Sata drives. The speed of the drives is therefore much slower. On similar single Esats docks I have with an integrated USB card reader, the system gives priority to the esata connection and I do not know why this dock does not give a similar priority. Unfortunately in practical terms it means that the card reader and extra USB ports cannot be used at the same time as the esata connection, unless you are willing to accept the much slower USB drive speeds, or do not plug in the USB lead until the esata connection has been recognised

Rated 5 out of 5 by from extremely good Brught the item so I didn't have to open my computer all the time data transfer is really fast and easy to use every thing worked right out off the box only thing is it has changed slightly from the picture on the website and don't have so many ports on the front it has 2 usb 3.0 ports one sd memory card slot and that's it on the back it's just a usb conector and power conector I'm a very pleased customer and it is well worth the money

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Check the box carefully I just tried to buy one of these in Colchester, it turns out that Maplin no longer sell this model only the newer model with USB 3 ports but no eSATA connection. The D3 is completely different from the item advertised. If it was as described it could have received a higher score. Very sloppy product control.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bought 2 months ago, on my second unit and about to take it back to try to get a refund, quite simply does not work reliably with 2 hard disks in. Which was the reason I bought it. PC spec's is not an issue - i5 processor with 16GB of RAM running Window5 64bit.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Connects to two computers at the same time Fab product Bought seven years ago and no problems so far. Gives me a transfer speed of 6gbs/sec if I connect this to a PCIe eSATA port and laughably slow 450mb/sec if I only use the USB2 connection but I've a netbook that doesn't have an eSATA port so got no choice with that one, anyway and great to be able to connect to both computers at the same time. A word of advice to readers of this review. eSATA only connects SATA hard drives to computers so you'll not be able to use any of the USB plugs or memory card readers using only the eSATA connection. To do this you will have to connect your computer using the USB2 port. I only use this as a hard drive docking station so don't need the USB connection on my 16 core 5ghz i7 desktop PC, while on my infinitely inferior netbook, because this is only connected via the USB port, I do get all the other connections, not that I use any of them.

Just purchased this item to clone laptop drives for work. Cloning software requries a serial number to install, there isn't one anywhere in the box. Any clues?

Asked by: Mik Walker
The serial number should be on a sticker on the CD packet.

Are any compatability issues relating to operating systems of the HDD and the PC? My HDD is from a Windows 10 (a newish PC that has stopped working) and I want to be able to read the contents on my old Windows XP machine.
