Energenie PMS is a power management extension block with advanced surge protection and solid construction. The four managed sockets of this unit can be individually programmed from a personal computer to switch on and off according to a timed schedule or based on events or controlled manually from the keyboard. The unit can be pre-programmed with timer schedule and then disconnected from the managing computer to use elsewhere.

Typical applications for the PMS are:
• Aquariums and terrariums
• Heater & pump control
• Air conditioning control especially in computer server rooms
• Lighting control
• Laboratories for control applications
• Saunas and hot tubs
• Battery charging control e.g. golf buggies and caddies, laptop racks
• ...and more
There are two sockets that are always on when the mains switch is ON.
PC Software for the following:
Main Status Display: Shows the status of every managed socket (ON/OFF).
Double-clicking on the sockets toggles them on/off.
Manual socket switching: Selected keyboard keys can be programmed to switch any of the managed sockets on or off.
Hardware Timer Schedule: A hardware timer schedule for each socket may be programmed to allow the unit to operate standalone.
Software Timer Schedule: A software timer schedule can be set for each socket controlled from a connected computer.
Application Events: Each socket may be controlled by the launch or closedown of applications running on the computer.
Network Sharing: The PMS unit may be shared with remote computers.
Voltage Alarm: This occurs mainly if the socket has to be switched off, but due to some malfunction it remains switched on. Voltage alarms are accompanied with beeps (unless "Disable device beeper" option is activated)
A Command Line interface provides the capability to control the PMS from your own software applications

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great Product, lousy software Once again, a really nice product is let down by something silly. Despite the box for this thing being pretty big, yet another company saw fit to provide the software on one of those daft little half-size disks that some DVD drives can't read. Most places online provide the version 5 of the software, which is for the LAN version of this device (note: despite Maplin's description, this is NOT the LAN version - that costs Ј60 elsewhere!). The version 4 of the software seems not to exist anywhere apart from on the silly little disk that won't read in all drives. I was able to install the software onto a test machine, and on there the device works beautifully. Unfortunately, to get it to work on the intended computer, I need to either fit a different DVD drive, or find a memory stick - pretty rubbish when all it would have taken was a full size DVD.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It works I have been using this power management system to control my aquariums for around 2 years, it controls the lights and the CO2 solenoid, a brilliant piece of kit. The latest software can be downloaded for the Energenie Web site

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great piece of equipment! I was initially cautious due to the above reviews, however - it IS manageable via LAN. You just set the device up as a shared device across the LAN via your PC. This device lets me switch off my monitor and peripherals when my PC shuts down (and visa-versa) and turns on my printer only when a document is spooled. I don't know exactly how much power I'm saving, but every little helps :)

Rated 2 out of 5 by from LAN features didn't work, latest software Poor. The unit itself looks well made, it has a feel of quality about it. Then you install the software. The software provided on the disk is currently Power Manager 4.0.1.9. this software seems to work to a point. The command line control works nicely, the GUI control works nicely. The network share function didn't seem to work, even when I shut my firewall down. The remote PC detects it, but sits there saying "Connecting". To address this I made the mistake of installing the latest software. I don't advise it. The latest was a version 5, although the support website doesn't tell you the version before you download it.... This version seems to be missing all the LAN shared resource options, I contacted Energenie and they confirmed they couldn't find them either and said they would be in touch with the software developers. Two weeks later we have no progress on that... I have also found the new software didn't respond to command line either! As a last ditch attempt to get it working I reinstalled the old code from the disk, and found the command line would work from there. I have yet to get the network shared resource functionality to work. It's all been rather disappointing, the unit promised a great solution and looks well made, and their support was all very polite and helpful... but failed to resolve any of the issues. I'm a professional Software Engineer, trying to use this product in line with my work.

Hi there, wondering if this IS the LAN version of it or just the USB version ?

Asked by: KKKK
On this occasion Maplin do not stock a product that exactly meets your requirements, or indeed anything close enough to offer you as an alternative.
