How easy is this projector to set up?
Suitable for both the home and office, this versatile Epson EB-S31 projector is great for watching films with family or delivering clear presentations. The amazing thing about this projector is its auto power on function. This feature triggers your projection to start automatically once an input source has been detected. This means you can start watching and presenting in no time at all, with an easy and hassle-free set-up. You can also display two images from two different input sources side by side on the same screen, making your presentations more effective and interactive. A 2W mono speaker is built into the projector for an all-in-one solution, reducing the need to take or set up a speaker.

How clear is the picture with ambient light in the room?
Utilising 3LCD technology, this projector is capable of achieving high white and colour light output, with both able to achieve up to 3,200 lumens of light. The high lumen output means you can enjoy clear and detailed images regardless of the amount of ambient light in the room. A 15,000:1 contrast ratio gives you deep, rich blacks and dense shadow areas, for a detailed and lively image. Projected at a native SVGA resolution (800 x 600 pixels) and 4:3 aspect ratio, you can enjoy a good square image. The aspect ratio can be changed to 16:9 for a widescreen projection so you can replicate the cinema experience in your own home. There will be a ‘letterbox’ effect around the image in a 16:9 aspect ratio.

Where should I put the projector to get the best image?
This projector has a throw ratio of 1.45 to 1.96:1 which allows you to project a huge 200 inch image at a distance of around 8.77m away. Automatic keystone detection and adjustment instantly corrects any distortions in the image, which is caused by the projection not being level with the area it is projecting on. This feature makes it quicker to set up the projector, without needing to spend time manually adjusting the image. Additionally, manual horizontal keystone correction ensures that the projector can be placed in numerous locations without a distorted image occurring.

What different ways I can connect to this projector?
Enjoy your content from a range of sources and display it onto a 200 inch screen, with HDMI, VGA, USB type B, composite video and S-Video connections available. Twin phono (RCA) ports for adding audio to your analogue input source. So you can enjoy the sound from the projector’s speakers. A type B USB connection and the built-in player gives you the ability to play videos (only AVI files supported) and project pictures from a USB memory stick or hard drive.

Alternatively you can wirelessly connect your computer, Mac or smartphone to the projector wirelessly, with Epson’s ELPAP10 Wi-Fi adapter (sold separately). The iProjection app allows images and documents to be projected from your smartphone or tablet, making presentations easy to setup and wire-free.

How does eco mode help me?
Once eco mode has been activated lamp brightness, fan speed and power consumption are all reduced. The reduction of brightness of the lamp helps extend its life to 10,000 hours, decreasing the frequency needed to maintain and replace the lamp. This helps you save time and money, as it will take approximately 15 years of use before either the lamp or filter needs to be changed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Office Use We bought this projector to use for our office meetings. It's really easy to set up, not too loud, and bright enough to have the lights on in the room and still be able to see the projection. We mainly use it with a laptop to project excel spreadsheets and it works perfectly for that. We would highly recommend this for an office projector, it's really good value for money too compared to what's our there.

Is it capable of making a short "throw" of the image, i .e. within a living room ?

Asked by: Neil49
Yes Pages 149-154 of the user manual contain the projection screen sizes available and the distance from the projection surface to the projector required in order to achieve those sizes. or you can use the Epson Throw Distance Calculator to get an approximation of what screen size is available at what distance from the screen.

Since when has a ratio of 4:3 been classed as square? It is rectangular, square would 4:4 or 3:3.

Asked by: Michael
This comes from the differences in aspect ratio distinctions used in broadcast and digital video processing. As the first displays to use digital video also had to be compatible with standard definition television they used a rectangular pixel as opposed to the standard square. As such a square image had an offset pixel ratio due to the wider pixels used resulting in 4 pixels high being equal to 3 wide. This has since passed into the broadcast lexicon that an image of 4:3 ratio is square.

If I connect to my iPad could this projector act as an interactive whiteboard, in a classroom? If not can you recommend one?

Asked by: Annasiya
This would not work for this purpose. On this occasion Maplin do not stock a product that exactly meets your requirements, or indeed anything close enough to offer you as an alternative.
