Would this be the right PIR sensor for me?
A great addition to your home or business for safety or convenience, this PIR sensor allows you to connect lights rated up to 1000W and have them turn on when motion is detected. The sensor can catch movement at a maximum angle of 180 degrees and distance of 12 metres, providing you with a wide area of coverage. With an IP44 rating it can be used outdoors as well as indoors.

What lights can I use with this PIR sensor?
This PIR sensor is compatible with 1000W incandescent and 400W fluorescent or lower light sources, so you can use a range of different light sources. Additionally you can decide how long the light stays on for with the adjustable timer allowing you to set the time to between five seconds and 12 minutes. Also with the adjustable light sensor (0 to 1000 lux) you can decide when you want the PIR sensor to start catching movement.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I've had two of these in the last 12 months. The first failed 6 months later, the second (replacement) failed 5 months after installation. Both failed in the same way - used indoors on a 100W incandescent bulb. After initial trigger in darkness, they automatically re-trigger ~half a second after switching off; until another light source turns them off.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dependable I installed a BZ18U 13 years ago. It worked perfectly until a few days ago, when it remained permanently on. I have replaced it with another, setting the controls to the same positions as on the original one, so it worked immediately and no further adjustment was required; and if I get 13 years out of the new replacement as well, I shall be well pleased. I find the 180 degree feature very useful. For my application, I have blanked off the 'middle' 110 degrees of the sensor so that when mounted midway along a passage, it responds to movements at either end, turning on a pair of bulkhead lights. Very useful on a dark night.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Somewhat surprised at other reviews ! I have had one since they first came out, which has worked splendidly for well over 10 years, situated outdoors monitoring driveway and garden. One small modification I did make was to glue a small plastic peak along the top rim of the lens as it was felt that in rainy conditions(as with most PIR's) the sensitivity dropped noticeably and this solved the problem. To be honest I may have once replaced the high wattage voltage dropping resistor which is common in many mains powered PIR's but as I have several different ones I am not 100% sure that I did. Whether there have been any production changes to this device which would account for other reviews I don't know, but I am ordering a new one simply because it's been in use so long the faded white no longer matches my freshly painted Porch. Reliabilty Tip: Avoid facing street lights, setting sun, car headlights, moving trees etc and try making small tilt adjustments up or down to gain max range/sensitivity.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I bought this in October 2008 for external use driving a 300W Halogen floodlight. After six months it kept sticking ON. After nearly a year it would come on with the first thing it detected, go off momentarily after three minutes, then come on and stay on all night. Disappointing reliability

Rated 1 out of 5 by from chris I got one it only work for about a week water got into it shorted out the power it is badly mad the lens let's in water and the power lead should go in through the bottom instead of the side so you can loop the cable under the p.i.r as water can not climb up the cable in to the p.I.r and fail unit

Can this sensor be used with LED lights?

Asked by: Terri
The sensor simply acts as a switch turning on a circuit when triggered. You can connect anything you wish as long as the load does not exceed 1000w

Does it have a manual over ride?

Asked by: phil
Yes it does To keep the light on regardless of the motion, you can override the Automatic Operation. Turn the wall switch off and on twice within 4 seconds. The interval between the first and second operation must be within 0.5 - 2 seconds.

Description for this unit states a wide choice of light units can be used controlled with this sensor. However I cannot find a light unit of 300-400watts to purchase without a sensor fitted.
