Rated 5 out of 5 by from It worked! Hoorah! This worked in the ExpressCard/54 slot on my Acer Aspire 7730 laptop (which is some 8 or 9 years old!). The instructions that come with it are good - simple and easy to follow. It does not come with a FireWire lead or the optional Power Adaptor (but I have not yet needed a Power Adaptor). I used it to connect my Panasonic NV DS-55B digital camera (which is approx 17 years old!) using a FireWire 400 lead (6 pin male to 4 pin male) and it seems to have somehow worked! (i.e. I have managed to import my digital video from the mini-DV camera onto the Acer laptop - yay!).

I have an ExpressCard (54 /34) slot. Will it fit this?

Asked by: Fredd
It fitted into the ExpressCard 54/34 slot on my ACER Aspire 7730 laptop. The instructions that are enclosed with it are simple and good. They advised to check that Windows Vista Service Packs 1 and 2 were installed so that Windows Vista could install the correct driver for the FireWire port ExpressCard. I am not too good with computers, but managed to do this on my Acer Aspire 7730 laptop bought in 2008 (so some 8 or 9 years old!!) via the Windows free software download website. It then advised to check in Device Manager that the "IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers" / "Texas Instruments OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller" was displayed in order to verify installation. It was then a case of inserting the card being careful because the first half of the slot is wider (54mm) than the ExpressCard itself (34mm). And hey presto! I used a FireWire 400 lead (6 pin male to 4 pin male) to connect my Panasonic NV DS-55B video camera (some 17 years old!!) to the FireWire port on the ExpressCard.
