Overview

Product overview

• Combo FireWire / USB Express card• Add 2 x IEEE 1394a 6 port Firewire ports and 1 x USB 2.0 port to your laptop• Express Cardbus connection• Ideal for DV camcorders, hard disks, digital cameras and other audio video devices• For use on newer generation laptops• Includes DC power jack socket (12V 1A) for powering high power firewire devices• PSU not included (sold seperately)• Vista Ready

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I've been using this item for 9 months and it has worked fine. I've used both Vista and Windows 7 64 bit Premium with no issues. The ports are not powered so you have to add your own power supply (detailed under the card). For this product, as it is Firewire, the required input is 12v @ 1A. Hot swapping is usually fine. I bought this item for the Firewire ports. However, if you are buying a PC Express item like the four USB 2.0 express card, then an exernal set up would probably suffice (due to the external powering needed for the card).

will this run on a windows 8 machine? if not, do you have a firewire to PC unit that will?

Asked by: keith
This unit isn't rated for use in Windows 8, due to Microsoft removing the 1394 bus drivers. However a Legacy driver can be obtained from the below link which may restore functionality. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2970191

Hi I bought my HP laptop in 2015 (new) and these are the characteristics AMD A8 64 10 APU. I also possess a Sony V1 that works with firewire connection. Is this card going to work on my pc and allow me to capture footage form the camcoder? Thanks

Asked by: vaadi
It would depend on whether your laptop has an Express CardBus port available. Unfortunately the information you have provided does not allow us to check this detail for you, but it should be detailed in the Specifications section of your laptop user manual.

I have Sony Movie Studio Platinum 12 (64 bit) and want to capture from vhs video and cassette tape, will this work and with windows 10.

Asked by: Michael
If you have a laptop with a PCMCIA connector then this card will plug in and give you Firewire connectivity, I have NEVER seen a VHS player with Firewire but is is available on many digital camcorders, it will allow you to quickly extract digital data without any loss of quality as the image is extracted as a digital stream. You could then use you software to author and edit the data before burning to disc.
