The built-in Electricity Cost Monitor allows you to see how much electricity individual appliances are using and how much it costs to run them. It will instantly display what the effect of turning off individual appliances, TVs, PCs, electric heaters, kettles etc. has on your electricity usage and costs. The power strip works with one up to a total of 5 individual appliances connected into the 5 sockets on the unit. Simply plug the unit into the electricity socket, and then plug the appliances into the sockets on the unit. The display unit will then show all the information about the appliances energy usage in real time. You can easily enter your current electricity price - the monitor will then show how much the appliances are costing to run on an hourly, daily and monthly basis. The meter allows you to enter 2 different electricity costs – ideal if your electricity runs on day time and night time tariffs. In addition, the C02 consumption of the appliances can be seen, along with the voltage, power factor, and current. Information can be stored over a period of time, so for example, you can see how much electricity an individual appliance is using on a daily basis, and how much that costs. Having the 5 sockets makes the product ideal for measuring the electricity usage of computers and peripherals, TVs, video recorders, DVD players, SKY boxes and much, much more. You will soon see which appliances are guzzling energy! All data can be reset when you are ready to monitor the energy usage of the next appliance.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Doesn't measure each socket, hard to read The description says "... allows you to see how much electricity individual appliances are using" but this is only true if only one of the five sockets is in use. In other words, there is only one measurement for all sockets combined. I also found the display hard to read - too small and dark, indications at the edge disappeared into shadow unless very well lit and held at just the right angle. In any case I couldn't get this unit to work - the current always showed zero and the voltage reading incorrect and unstable. Tried two different units, ended up returning them both. Recommend the "15A Plug In Energy Saving Monitor" instead, which works fine.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Just doesn't work Previous two reviews say it all really. I just can't get this thing to work. At all. The instructions, although written in good English, just don't provide enough detail. Consequently I followed them as best I could but voltage, current and all other measurands it is supposed to display are not displayed correctly - sorry, it actually did correctly display the day and time. Rung up Maplin to ask for further PDF etc, but although they were sympathetic and tried to be helpful, there is currently no further documentation available on this product. A definite "Don't Buy." One star for managing to display the time correctly.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good: This is a well-made product that offers you lots of information about the amount of electricity you are using. Price is good for this product which enables you to add more than one electrical item at a time. Comes in a good strong box Bad point: Instructions are very poor and basic. No information about what some of the settings do and why. It is assumed that you already have some understanding This information I think is needed so that you fully understand and know how to use the information that is being given out. You don't want pages and pages of instructions but you do need at least a understanding of what these settings mean and do Could end up as another one of those items that you never use again because you don’t fully understand how to use it.......... Shame otherwise a good product

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not working out of the box This product has a built in battery which is supposed to be rechargeable. Mine would not charge up so the meter didn't work. After leaving it plugged in for 24 hours the battery voltage only read 1.4 volts ( supposed to be 3.6 ). So I unsoldered the battery and the meter now works but without any memory to retain settings. Good enough for Ј10 but if any stock are left I suggest they are withdrawn and checked.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from OK but poor instructions This unit works well but the instructions are very poor. It is also perhaps too complex for most users - who are unlikely to want the daily/weekly etc. data recording. But if you just want a power/power factor measuring device this is fine and accurate & quite cheap. As others have said there is only one measurement - the 5 sockets are just totalled in parallel.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works well but let down by poorly written instruction leaflet which fails to explain many technical terms so you don't really know what you're setting.

Does Maplin or anybody you know of sell the tool needed to undo the 8 (anti-tamper) screws that hold on the back? The usual screw-bits available are too short/thick.

Asked by: Mega
On this occasion Maplin do not stock a product that exactly meets your requirements, or indeed anything close enough to offer you as an alternative.
