• A magnet and reed switch sensor that can be used to protect doors and windows
• Recessed into doors or windows and their frames for a flush finish providing a discreet magnetic switch with an operating gap of 15mm
• Five terminal contactsWhat is this flush contact used for?
This flush contact, which comes with a magnet and reed switch, is great for protecting your wooden doors and windows discreetly. Once connected to a security system, when the distance between the reed switch and magnet exceeds 15mm the alarm will sound.
How does this flush contact protect my home?
When wired up to a security system a circuit is formed when both the magnet and reed switch are in the presence of each other (or within 13mm of each other). Once an intruder opens the protected door/window, this circuit is broken and the alarm will sound. Since this flush contact makes a circuit with the security system, if someone were to cut the wire connection the alarm would still sound, adding to the overall security.
Where is the ideal place to install this?
The distance between the magnet and reed switch has to be greater than 15mm before the alarm does go off. This means that it is best to locate this contact on doors or windows where the gap between the frame and the door/window is not too far apart or won’t get too much disturbance.
What will I need to get this connected to the security system?
Since this is a flush contact, a recess does need to be made in the door/window that it is to be fixed to. Then in order to connect this to your security system an alarm cable is needed (e.g. Order Code: XR89W). The five screws at the bottom of the reed switch are used to wire it up to the control panel, where three of the screws will be used to make security loops (brass in colour) and two will be used to connect to the reed (silver in colour), establishing an alarm loop.
