Rated 5 out of 5 by from I bought this item based on the positive reviews left by previous customers and like them, I agree that this is a very good piece of kit which works very well indeed. It does require the use of leads - one to power the item via the cigarette lighter and one to connect to your mobile phone (which is a little short). This can be a little cumbersome and will not leave your dashboard particularly tidy but this is small beer really given the price of the item. There are other, more expensive, ФЗяleadlessФЗЦ alternatives on the market that will connect via Bluetooth and have independent power sources by way of a rechargeable battery, but they do not really do anymore than what this product is capable of doing. Ultimately they will need to be plugged in to be charged anyway (and the Bluetooth will also drain the power in your phone pretty quickly too). To get around some of these issues, I wired in an additional cigarette lighter socket (also available from Maplin for ?ъ2.99) into the back of my stereo head unit which is hidden behind the dashboard. The advantage here is that not only is the power lead now hidden, it is also controlled by the ignition key, so there is no constant draw on the battery when the ignition is switched off. As the overview specifies, the unit is basically an FM transmitted and requires you to tune both the unit and your radio to the same frequency in order to be able to hear any music being played from your mobile phone or any telephone conversation via the hands-free functionality. So just a word of caution hereФЗЄthe unit professes to transmit up to ten meters away. Therefore if you listen to say Radio 2 on 88.7FM and tune the unit to the same frequency, should a call come in then anyone else around you within a 10 metre radius listing to Radio 2 on the same frequency (and a few MHz either side) will be able to hear your conversation. Sitting in traffic would be a good example of where this may arise. To avoid this, I have tuned the unit to 87.6FM the lowest extreme of the FM range where no national radio station broadcasts. I have then tuned a preset on my car stereo to the same frequency and whenever a call comes in I simply flick it over to the specified preset. Something else to consider with FM transmitters is that with a little further tweaking, this could be a pretty effective bugging deviceФЗЄ All in all a nice, tidy product that has excellent functionality and works exceptionally well for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works perfectly with iPhone even with the poor windscreen intergrated antenna in my car, (have not tested the quality of the microphone for calls so cannot comment on that) but as a fm transmitter spot on.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from After using some other FM transmitters and having problems with poor sound quality i was unsure about this one but oh how wrong i was! Pressed the scan button and picked up the best station for me, tuned my radio to it and that was it, fantastic sound quality with no distortion or background noise, the buttons on the front to answer calls/skip tracks/play and pause are great too! Cannot recommend enough!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Breaks very easily I picked up the item not long after I got a new car and wanted to play my iPhone. It broke 3 months later due to a shoddy cable. I decided to buy the product again as I was near another Maplin and thought that it was just a one off. After buying the next one it broke after 2 months. First the 'skip' button stopped working and then finally the audio connector would not stay in my iPhone so music kept pausing. Absolutely avoid for something else.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not very sturdy Fundamentally works fine but you're gonna get fed up with how fiddly/fragile it is. Connection issues and sound problems, plays ~really quietly unless you have your phone speaker turned up full too (awful waste of battery). Specially annoying when you forget you've turned the volume up to 50 to hear the thing and accidentally change radio station. Often drops out of signal, but I do live in rural Wales. It fits in the headphone jack (great for someone who changes phone models frequently), but sometimes quite hard to remove. No problems with Maplin, just the product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I purchased this in May and have had no trouble with it until this week and I use it on a daily basis. However, I will be exchanging it as it works extremely well compared to other FM transmitters I have previously used.
