What can I do with the Google Chromecast Audio?
The Chromecast Audio is a compact device which plugs into your speaker for streaming music over Wi-Fi. Cast the music you love from your smart device via music services like Google Play music, Deezer and Spotify, with more apps being added all the time, there is no end to the amount of music, radio stations and podcasts you can enjoy. There is support for lossless high-resolution audio, which is better than CD-quality sound, so you can listen to your favourite artists the way they were meant to be heard. Additionally, since you music is streamed from the cloud it won’t drain your battery or get in the way of other activities. You can answer a call, browse the web, play a game or even leave the room – all without interrupting your casted music.

What is the Google Chromecast Audio compatible with?
Chromecast audio can be connected to speaker systems with an auxiliary (aux) or 3.5mm jack input connection with the included 3.5mm jack cable. You can also plug it into speaker systems that have twin phono (RCA) or digital optical (TOSLINK) ports too, with a RCA to 3.5mm jack cable or an optical to mini-TOSLINK cable required respectively (sold separately, for example Order Code: A77NU or Order Code: A00NY). Casting to the Chromecast Audio requires a compatible device, with the following Wi-Fi-enabled smart devices compatible: Android 4.1 or later smartphone and tablets; iOS 7.0 or later iPhone, iPad and iPod devices; Chrome browser for Mac and Windows computers and laptops; and Chrome OS.

How do I control the Chromecast audio?
Your phone is the remote with Chromecast Audio, just tap the cast button on your compatible music app to hear them on your speaker. Search, play, pause, queue songs and turn up the volume from your phone anywhere in the house. If your app isn’t cast-enabled or you do not have music on your device, you can mirror audio from your Android phone or tablet to the speaker. You can also mirror music and audio from streaming websites via the Chrome browser. Friends and family can join in too, with anyone able to cast their music to your speakers using their own phone – no additional setup or pairing is needed.

Can I play music to multiple speakers?
Using the Chromecast app and multi-room you can group together speakers that each have a Chromecast Audio device connect to it. As long as the speakers are all on the same network, you can stream the same song across multiple speakers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good but strange rules 1. Setup. Tried from Windows PC and couldn't be found. Then tried Android phone and worked straight away and then the PC found it too; 2. Audio files. Won't play music from files on PC through Google Play. Instead it will upload 50000 tracks to the cloud for free and you can then play them. Spotify only works with premium; 3. Thinking of buying another one or two to use for multi-room as so much cheaper than other optio s; 4. Overall. Bargain and the strange rules can be worked around.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Highly Recommended. Very easy to set up and I've used it quite often to listen to internet radio on my hi-fi system using a PC, which I find more 'user friendly'. You will probably need the 'Google Home' app to set it up if you are using an android smartphone.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Seriously Limited The Chromecast Audio product is practically incompatible with iphone, windows, Laptop/PC, youtube, browsers etc etc, You cannot play music off your PC hard drive! It is practically useless considering the common applications one might want to use. This fact is hard to discover without spending time researching below the surface. It is a real pity it does not live up to the hype.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Third Chromecast audio Must be quite good or I wouldn't have got three. However two have a low level ticking interference which I haven't been able to trace. The one on my old stereo is interference free.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So simple.....and it works! Bought a couple of weeks ago as iPeng wasn’t supporting graphics for my Squeezebox touch. Wasn’t expecting great sound and thought I might need a DAC but have been amazed at the sound quality. Very easy to set up, a couple of times it has got ‘stuck’ but simple enough to restart. Definitely worth £30!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Weaponise your speakers! I bought four at the reduced price and I'm now able to selective Spotify to different areas of the house or indeed everywhere! All in sync, all at top notch quality (one using digital optical), and controllable from all of my devices. What more could you want?

Can you stream music from files stored on a local hard drive

Asked by: Aa Uxbridge
You CANNOT play files directly off the hard drive as you might think/like (by just clicking on them and selecting an output option)!!! It may be possible with some serious networking knowledge or copying the files to Google system, but most people will not have the ability or patience.
