Product overview

• Ideal for use with red, yellow and blue insulated crimp terminals• Ratchet to prevent tool accidentally opening• Overall length: 225mm

Simply place the connector to be crimped in the appropriate die in the jaws and squeeze the handles together until the tool re-opens. A ratchet prevents the tool opening until the crimp is complete. A latch is provided so that the tool can be opened manually, after the ratchet has engaged, and before the crimp is complete if necessary. Manufactured from 3mm steel plate with plastic handles.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I bought these but found that the crimping jaws were made of stacked pieces of thin steel instead of the more common (and more robust) dropped-forged jaws as found on many other crimpers. I can only think that this was a cost saving measure. I didn't even bother to use them, as the jaws (especially on the outermost crimp position) were grossly misaligned due to the excessive play in whole mechanism. I don't believe them to be faulty - just of poor design. These also differed from the picture on Maplin's website which seemed to show drop-forged jaws as far as can be seen. For the price I expected much better quality, so I returned them for a full refund - no quibbles asked. I think these were branded 'Rolson' but the same type also appear to be available from various retailers under a variety of brand names, but it is difficult to be sure as the pictures on websites do not always show a close-up of the jaws! Maplin do sell a much more expensive set of crimpers that look perfect, but are far too expensive for me, so I reluctantly had to purchase a branded crimper from elsewhere! I wouldn't take this review as a 'knock' about other types of Rolson (or whoever) crimpers, it is just these 'Heavy Duty' ones that are not as good as they ought to be.

Which way round should the cable entry on the crimp be placed in the jaws? i.e to the coloured dots or the blank side of the jaws.
Asked by: John Allerton
It makes no difference
