About this product

Product overview

• Protect garage or shed doors with the included reed switch and magnet
• Surface mounted with an operating gap of 40mm providing you with a wider distance compared to standard switches for increased flexibility
• Six terminal contacts

What can I do with the magnetic contact?
This contact is used to protect doors and windows when you are away from home. If it is connected to an alarm system then when an intruder opens the door/window the alarm will sound. The distance between the reed switch and magnet has to be greater than 40mm before the alarm does go off.

Since this gap is wider compared to standard switches, this contact is great for use on doors or windows where there could a lot of movement between the window/door and it's frame. An example would be loose shed doors where winds could rattle the door and cause a lot of false alarms if a traditional magnetic contact was used instead.

Where can I use this magnetic contact?
This heavy duty magnetic contact is ideal for use in areas where traditional magnetic contacts would cause too many false alarms due to a small operating distance. It provides you with a gap of 40mm before an alarm is sounded, allowing you to install it at a larger number of different areas.

Will this magnet contact work with my security system?
This heavy duty magnetic contact will work with any security system that allows for direct wiring. The alarm control panels will require an alarm cable to run between the contact and the control panel (e.g. Order Code: XR89W). Since this is hard wired into the security system there is tamper protection, which means that if someone were to cut the cable the alarm will sound, providing you with added protection.

Is this switch nc without the magnet or when magnet is introduced?

Asked by: Bort
The switch is open circuit until the magnet is introduced, it then closes and completes the circuit, if the magnet is moved or the wire is cut it goes open.

What are the 6 terminals for? Is there a datasheet for wiring the part?

Asked by: josie99
The terminals are usually labelled and can be wired for how you want the contact to be triggered. 2 terminals are typically reserved for TAMPER and if your alarm box supports TAMPER will send the panel into alarm if the wire is cut. There should be 2 others for the alarm circuit itself which send the panel into alarm when the contacts move apart.

Re Heavy Duty Reed Switch, how are both the reed switch and the magnet secured to the door and frame. The picture shows 2 halves, It seems the magnet body has 2 screw holes, but the reed switch has just one in the middle, or is that to remove the cover?

Asked by: Ricoh
Both are secured with 2 screws, the single hole you see is to remove the front cover.

Thanks, if P=V x I , As Russel said , 240V @ 1Amp, does that mean we can go upto 240Watts , no intention of going upto that wattage, just to use low powered curtsey light, max would be 18w

Asked by: charlie
This item will be fine at 18w.
