Rated 2 out of 5 by from After purchasing these helping hands I found my self running into problems immediately. The alligator clips used to hold whatever you want to solder in place where far to sharp and immediately damaged and even pierced the insulation on my wire. After placing tape on the alligator clips as to prevent further damage I proceeded to do what I had intended to in the first place. As I had finished soldering I decided to check my handy-work with the magnifying glass only to find out it was far to heavy for the stand and if not placed write at the center the stand would fall over. And to top it all of later on in the week I find out how unhandy it was to make even the slightest adjustment to stand, i.e widening the arms or lowering the boom etc... Even the slightest of adjustment required pliers to tighten as the hand tightening nuts were no good at all and could barely support themselves never mind anything else. All in all a very disappointing purchase having little to no use at all use for it and would recommend anyone thinking on buying this item not to do so and instead consider a "helping hands" from another brand or just consider using a "vice" which is what I had to resort back to. Note: After my experience I can assure everyone that the man or woman who made a previous review to me must have been given a completely different version of the product to me. I purchased on the 5/9/2012 from Maplin in Dublin city center just 5 minutes from Grafton Street

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I bought one. Problem is the upright support pillar is just not long enough so in its sold format the magnifying glass cannot focus properly. So I replaced the upright support with a similar piece of round steel bar ....just 15cm longer. Now the focal length adjustment is perfect. As sold it is worth no more than 2 stars....with my modification 5 stars.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from magnifier fell apart after just short use, alligator clips very sharp and also hard to tighten up. Poor product, for this price i would expect a little better

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Ok but has problems I bought this to do some intricate PCB work. the clips are very sharp. What I did was wrap insulation tape round each jaw to soften then. I think heat shrink might be also good. I find the magnifying glass doesnt really do much and gets in the way. I will do what another reviewer has done and get a longer upright bar. Not sure of the diameter though.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This is well built with a solid heavy base and very usable. It would be good to be able to buy an extension tool because at times the good quality magnifier was clearer on my work bench than on some of the tools in the jaws when these were elevated. Would be good to be able to buy clamps for bigger objects too. These are not criticisms - just a 'wish list' of add ons for a a good sturdy product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from AVOID I bought this in good faith to do a simple job. To continue using it would have presented so many problems I thought my god, this is cheap and nasty and decided to return it fr a refund. Cheap nasty rubbishy!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Truly abysmal Simply useless. None of the screw-fittings hold, so any pressure applied and they slip. Not fit for purpose. This simply shouldn't be sold and isn't worth purchasing, at any price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great bit of kit.... This was bought for me by my wife. I've run an audio business for over 30yrs and as I get older Its getting difficult to tackle the "delicate" soldering jobs. This little beauty has solved all my problems. Its "hands" are more than able to hold the cables or small PCB's I may be working on and the magnifying glass is a lot easier to work with than wearing glasses that slide off your nose...or they do mine!! All in all a great bit of kit. Something I'd highly recommend you try out.
