Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great little book! It is full of facts and interesting aspects of both common and not so common PC attributes. It is aimed at both young and old. You can read it from cover to cover, or just dive in to the section you want to know about. However I would recommend a scan of the whole book and then go back into the details when you are at that stage of build. There were two main take-aways: (1). anti-static precautions and earthing in general & (2) Don't be Daunted! Building a Maplin's PC can be child's-play these days. It is just like a simple jig-saw. My i5, 16Gb RAM, 128 SSD, Win-8 PC worked first time too! Also Maplin's staff were really helpful when it came to the buying of bits. Everything was comparable (thanks to Maplins careful choice of products) and the sales staff made helpful recommendations at every stage. (PS: and no, I do NOT work for Maplins, but I do have a lot of respect for their helpful and knowledgeable staff and thier frieldly customer service. - Thanks Andrew

How old is this guide and does it cover new tech such as haswell processors or the upcoming windows 10

Asked by: Nick
Unfortunately not this is a older book that only really covers basic components and older operating systems such as window 7.
