Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great box to replace sky I have this box hooked up to. USB Hard drive for recording. It's a brilliant sky+ replacement with Netflix included. I'm using it in the Republic of Ireland and the only reason it loses a star is that I can't get the on demand uk content like BBc I player etc. YouTube and Netflix, live channels and recordings is a pretty compelling deal though !:)

Rated 3 out of 5 by from initial impression is it that it's reasonable but also frustrating to use Pros: smart features, universal remote, potential for PVR Cons: TV Guide and user interface is sluggish, no channel list in non-Freesat mode I'm disappointed with the performance of the box interface, you can pretty much see the animated menu frames being rendered. Also I've noticed on HD channels a buffering message even though the satellite signal is 90% for strength and 100% for quality. Another issue for me is the lack of thought put into non-Freesat mode. There's no channel list apart from the one to 'edit' which means delete channels. No option to add to favourites, the only way you can really use it is to go on the 'edit' screen and write down the channel numbers. I asked Humax about this via chat about this mode and they were next to no help, "Advanced users who want to use it should know what they are looking for", which is fine apart from the fact stored channels are not given fixed numbers if you reset or retune the box. The box scans and adds them as it finds them sequentially from 5001 upwards. So you can't tell without a list what number the channel you are looking for has been assigned. Basically Humax should never have added this function as it is completely redundant and they seemingly don't support it either. Also, the channel sound in that mode is way out of sync. Lip sync adjustment doesn't help. " If you add an HDD, make sure it is formatted to FAT32 or it isn't detected properly. Then be prepared to leave it for at least 30 minutes before the format process and drive selection is actually recognised by the box. It takes an inordinate amount of time before the storage actually becomes accessible. If my old HD receiver hadn't packed up or one was available to buy still I'd be tempted to put that back in it's place. Maybe I'll get used to this new one but for the money it's a hard pill to swallow. Humax are now dominant in the market and seemingly complacent with it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from ok till This box is actually ok its a pain on catch up 4od has a habit of freezing. But its biggest bugbear just recently happened the remote fell apart. This has now rendered the box totally useless, as it only works with the remote

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Experience depends on Freesat vs non-Freesat mode It really depends on what you want this box for. If you specifically want it for the Freesat half of it, it's probably a 4 star product. Easy to connect and set up. But if you want it for the non-Freesat mode (for example to get continental TV), forget it. And since it claims to do both, that makes it a 2 star product in my eyes. - it took me half an hour on the web to discover how to turn off the Freesat mode and scan for channels. On a non-manufacturer user forum. The manuals have zero guidance on this. - every time you switch it on, it tries to push Freesat mode on you. - if you're unlucky, you spend hours setting it up and two days later, it has deleted your channels. - there is no channel list (correct, no list. Of course no EPG but I'd expect a list) and channels start at 5000. Not easy to punch in. - channels cannot be re-ordered or re-named, and if you have two LNBs, it mixed up the sets of channels in a totally random way. - the channel name is truncated after 6 or 7 characters, which means that it's often. impossible to differentiate between [Channelname] and [Channelname HD] because both show up as [Channeln]. The only improvement on my ancient decoder was that scanning for channels was a LOT faster. All in all, it is blatantly obvious that the non-Freesat mode is an unloved afterthought on this decoder.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just the Job Having a satellite dish, but no external aerial, this has resolved all my problems struggling with an indoor aerial and Freeview (there is nothing wrong with Freeview). So easy to install and get to grips with, it gives me all I need without the added cost of a contract and channels that I will never view. An excellent purchase!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from happy to recommend You had exactly what I wanted and had been unable to find in any store, though they all claimed they did sell Freesat boxes but they were out of stock. The price was the same as the stores' with free delivery within 3 days of the order to our island. Very happy.
