Rated 5 out of 5 by from An Excellent Piece of Kit Set in a stylish, very neat, black box this is an excellent piece of kit. It's a doddle to set-up (5 mins max which includes wifi connection to my router) and has lots of very useful features - including access to many free-to-air, on-demand services. Someone, somewhere has put a lot of thought into how we mere mortals actually use electronic gizmos and the result is a really user-friendly interface. Everything is clearly explained in the manual and the on-screen directions are very intuative. The 'home' screen gives shortcuts to many frequently-used features and thus saves having to rummage through multiple sub-menus or scrabble around on the remote to go anywhere. And I particularly like the fact that while you are moving around the various menus and functions, the programme you're currently watching remains in view as a PIP and the sounds remains on. Very useful. So far, so very good. I might even buy a second one for the bedroom.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Humax HDR 500GB This item is a replacement for a Humax foxsat HDR and overall works well however a number of facilities are missing from the earlier model which can only be a cost saving issue on their part. The remote control has problems with the keys sticking which sends the unit into appoplexy!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointment from Humax As someone who also has an older and excellent Freesat box - about 5 years old - we got this to move things around a bit. The software is now appalling compared to what it was. I've had it about 3 or 4 weeks and already I've had to reset the box once as it decided to not recognise the Ethernet connection. But overall the operation of the box is just not up to what it was in a previous version. We've lost a lot of the control we once had, for instance, to secure recordings from kids etc; the List function is hidden in the TV Guide and the Favourite list won't stay active and that's not all. I would have expected all the best features of a previous device to have been improved on and added to but it seems they've employed the use of cheap, off the shelf option leaving a great deal to be desired. Like most TV industry software its very, very poor - and worse than it used to be.

I have just cancelled my Sky Q, which has 2 cables would this box be compatible with these cables

Asked by: angie
Sorry but this isn't going to work. When Sky install Sky Q they utilise a LNB which incorporates Full Band Capture technology. This means the LNB on your dish is not backwards compatible with legacy satellite systems. If you have the LNB swapped back to a standard one you can once again use standard satellite decoding hardware.

I would like to buy this box but I only have 1 cable coming into my house for the satalitte dish , as this is a twin tuner will it still work with one?

Asked by: Char
A single tuner has 1 tuner and a twin tuner has 2. Some single tuners allow you to watch a prerecorded programme whilst recording 1, some don't. Either type will allow you to watch the programme as it is recording. With a twin tuner at the very least you can watch either a prerecorded programme or another channel whilst recording a programme, so for instance you could watch Channel 4 whilst recording BBC1. Other twin tuners allow you to record 2 programmes and have the option of watching either of the programmes as they record or a prerecorded programme. Twin tuners like the Topfield and Humax allow you to record 2 and watch a 3rd channel. Of course you also have the option of watching either of the recording channels or a prerecorded programme.
