Rated 5 out of 5 by from An Excellent Piece of Kit Set in a stylish, very neat, black box this is an excellent piece of kit. It's a doddle to set-up (5 mins max which includes wifi connection to my router) and has lots of very useful features - including access to many free-to-air, on-demand services. Someone, somewhere has put a lot of thought into how we mere mortals actually use electronic gizmos and the result is a really user-friendly interface. Everything is clearly explained in the manual and the on-screen directions are very intuative. The 'home' screen gives shortcuts to many frequently-used features and thus saves having to rummage through multiple sub-menus or scrabble around on the remote to go anywhere. And I particularly like the fact that while you are moving around the various menus and functions, the programme you're currently watching remains in view as a PIP and the sounds remains on. Very useful. So far, so very good. I might even buy a second one for the bedroom.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent alternative to sky My partner and I only watch Game of Thrones on Sky and we were paying over £30 a month for the privelidge (£60 incl. broadband). We decided to ditch Sky and move to Freesat having negotiated a Monday night viewing at our friends when the show returns next year. The box is smooth, easy to use and gives us all the channels we need - including POP, POP Max, CITV etc. for the kids. Plenty of space on the hardrive and great for catchup TV on iPlayer! Ordered the box on the Maplin website on Friday and it was promptly delivered the following Tuesday. Setup was a doddle and we moved seemlessly to Freesat. If you want to make some savings and leave Sky in favour of a great little box with recording facility - I couldn’t recommend any higher!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Humax freeview sat We bought this 2 days ago, and are delighted with our new Humax. We replaced our 8 year old one, for a more up to date model. our old one was still working but we wanted the catch up and on demand, and of course it has built in wifi. our quite new smart TV is not very good for on demand, keeps cutting out. this new Humax model is so quick. ,We cannot praise it enough, fantastic.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Humax HDR 500GB This item is a replacement for a Humax foxsat HDR and overall works well however a number of facilities are missing from the earlier model which can only be a cost saving issue on their part. The remote control has problems with the keys sticking which sends the unit into appoplexy!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointment from Humax As someone who also has an older and excellent Freesat box - about 5 years old - we got this to move things around a bit. The software is now appalling compared to what it was. I've had it about 3 or 4 weeks and already I've had to reset the box once as it decided to not recognise the Ethernet connection. But overall the operation of the box is just not up to what it was in a previous version. We've lost a lot of the control we once had, for instance, to secure recordings from kids etc; the List function is hidden in the TV Guide and the Favourite list won't stay active and that's not all. I would have expected all the best features of a previous device to have been improved on and added to but it seems they've employed the use of cheap, off the shelf option leaving a great deal to be desired. Like most TV industry software its very, very poor - and worse than it used to be.

I want to purchase this to replace my sky hd box. Will it be compatible?

Asked by: Dajo
This is not a Sky receiver, you will not be able to receive SKY exclusive content on this box. You will be able to receive FREESAT content from your dish (NOT SUITABLE FOR USE ON SKY Q DISH) for more information regarding the channels available on FREESAT .... READ HERE ...

We have an old type Sky box, if we replace this with the 1100S 500 box and we cancel our Sky subscription (dish has 2 cables) will we still be able to view Sky free channels as well as the standard free channels

Asked by: paulb
To view Sky channels , you must have a sky decoder(sky box), this item is a FREESAT box, a satellite must pointed to the FREESAT signal in order to view FREESAT channels , we sell satellite finders to align existing satellites :

I’m looking at buying this, do you know if there is a option to have a “magic eye” to work with this or something like that?

Asked by: Supercoops
No, I am sorry but the item will not be suitable.

I have just cancelled my Sky Q, which has 2 cables would this box be compatible with these cables

Asked by: angie
Sorry but this isn't going to work. When Sky install Sky Q they utilise a LNB which incorporates Full Band Capture technology. This means the LNB on your dish is not backwards compatible with legacy satellite systems. If you have the LNB swapped back to a standard one you can once again use standard satellite decoding hardware.
