Why limit yourself to just 150 channels?
With an Icecrypt Free To Air Satellite receiver not only can you receive over 500 Free channels on Astra 2 (used for Sky UK and Freesat) but if your dish is pointed at one of the many other satellites, or you have a motorised set up, the only limitation is the number of channels a receiver can store. Set Timers or use the One Touch Record feature to store your favourite programmes onto an external hard drive. Take the recordings with you to play back on any device which reads .TS (Transport Stream) files such as a PC, Laptop or Media Player. Use the USB port(s) to playback your media files, music and view photos on your TV. Move, Delete and Rename channels without restriction. Organise your channels into Favourite Groups, Sort Alphabetically or Lock Channels with a Parental Block. Enjoy, where broadcast, a full 7 day Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) to choose what you want to watch (please note that this receiver does not pick up the Sky UK or Freesat EPG as these are not standard DVB). If you can’t find something you want to watch on Free-To-Air you can always upgrade to Pay TV (a compatible card and subscription is required, available separately). The Icecrypt S1600CHD lets you do this and more, check the main features for other details.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I bought the Icecrypt S1600CHD (as shown in the picture on the web so not sure what S1600HDCCI+HD is if it is at all different). This was my first experience of setting up a satellite dish etc and I was looking for a cost effective way to experiment. I'm pleased to say that I have been successful and I've enjoyed my 'project' and learning as much as I can. The S1600 is a neat little unit and I think it is fair to say that it is a 'generic' receiver. I was only trying to get Freesat but it looks like it can receive anything! The issue with this is that you really need to fiddle with it to get it to do what you want it to do and the manual isn't exactly comprehensive or easy to understand. I've been pleased to record some programs on a USB HDD (and even a memory stick) and play them on both PC and iMac. Likewise, the S1600 has played files from my computer. Good, but setting the 8 timers, the EPG and playing back files is all a bit 'basic' and 'clunky'. At less than ?ъ80 I'm delighted with this tiny (single channel) SD and HD receiver that can record programs to an external HDD. If you can live without a slick user interface and like to play/learn then go for it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Better for standard definition than HDTV I purchased the S1600HDCCI+ and set it to receive via DiSeq switch both 13 and 19 E satellites. It readily tuned to and displayed all standard definition TV and radio channels well; and those multiplexes containing multiple standard definition plus one HDTV broadcast were displayed correctly. Unfortunately it failed dismally to cope with Ku band multiplexes containing multiple HDTV channels ( such as Telepace HD multiplex on Hotbird ) ~ which proved entirely beyond the capacity of this box. It would not lock onto or display anything. I returned this box to Maplin and purchased the Icecrypt S3200HDCCI+ instead, which has no problem at all with multiplexed multiple HD broadcasters on one frequency. This small Icecrypt box can be recommended _except_ for reception of HD multiplexes containing multiple HD channels.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works a treat We bought this product to get certain channels in Spain. It was fiddley to set up and we needed more info off the net. However, once we got it working, we now have most of the channels we wanted. perfect for us

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pleasantly Surprised Used this unit in my motorhome in France and was surprised at the quality of the HD picture. I preset the unit up at home to the Astra 28.2 deg satellite. It was a simple procedure to align my portable sat dish when on the install menu screen for that satellite, and bingo every time locked on.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Loads of channels easy setup Removed a Freesat from system as restrctions. Installation was a doddle as all components were in place. The manual that comes with it is quite easy to follow once you get to understand the format. Overall a good compact replacement to Freesat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lovely little box - a bargain at £60 I bought this to replace an old SD Technomate box on my motorised dish and it does everything that that did and more and it is about a fifth of the size. In the box: * Receiver * Power supply * Remote + batteries * Manual * HDMI cable * Serial programming cable * Phono lead * Remote control sensor (so you can put the box behind the TV and just put the sensor near the front - you can use the remote as normal without this) Set-up * Like every satellite receiver I have had, it is a bit fiddly to set up. But in fact once I worked it out it is very simple and better than my other receivers. * I use it for Atlantic Bird 5W and Astra 19.2E for the French channels. I selected Astra 28.2E and it moved my dish to it by itself - I am used to finding the satellites manually. * Finds a lot more channels on the same satellites as my Technomate even though I do a blind search on both (apart from the HD channels because my Technomate does SD only). * Within about half an hour of getting it out of the box, I had worked out how to use it and tuned it to 3 satellites (without using the manual) so it is obviously easy enough to work it out. Watching it * Easy to use remote * You can choose your current satellite by grouping the channels in the channel list rather than with a separate SAT button. * Gives you all the Freesat channels on Astra * Good picture, good sound * (I have not tried recording to USB yet) (Note. It has got a Conax card reader under the unit at the front which is why Maplin put CI+ on the model number even though that isn't the model number on the receiver: S1600CHD.)

I've bought a Maxview dish for my campervan as many of the places I go to have a poor TV reception and my aerial fails to pick up anything but a few channels. I'm not after anything fancy so will this be okay for basic viewing?

Asked by: YAMAHA1000
Yes as long as the dish is correctly aligned with a satellite then you will be able to sweep for channels. Please remember that as your position changes so does the alignment of your dish, it is advisable to realign and re-tune every time you move location.

My new property has a satellite outlet in kitchen. I simply want to watch channels such as BBC and Freeview. I have been told that I will need to have a satellite box To simply watch these channels will the box require an Internet connection.

Asked by: Dave77
You do not need internet connectivity to watch satellite broadcast. You simply need a Satellite receiver (like this one) connected to a suitable dish and a display device like a TV. Internet connectivity is typically used for catch up or online services.
