Rated 1 out of 5 by from The manufacturer of the JM20337 chip (JMicron) that this product often uses and many other products contain has a serious fault that causes data corruption. Jmicron are aware of the fault and often tell people to remove the R15 resistor on the circuit board to resolve the fault. Most say that this solved the problem with the product but some still say they had errors. Ask yourself if you can be bother to buy this and start tinkering about with the circuit board to get it working...

Rated 3 out of 5 by from What should have been a useful piece of kit is marred by poor design : 1)The USB lead, at 10 inches, is much too short. 2) The 2.5" to 3.5" IDE adapter does not snap into the 2.5" connector and works loose too easily. Consequently it is necessary to use tape to hold the two parts together. 3) The DC power connector can be inserted either way round - get it wrong and your drive will have no power, although it does not seem to cause any damage.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This product has a fatal flaw: it uses the JM20337 chip; which is associated with data corruption problems. It sometimes returns a zero-value error code which most systems treat as "no error" and continue despite some of the data being invalid. It can also "hang" during intensive I/O requiring a USB bus reset before responding again. This is inconvenient but not as serious as the silent data corruption problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I brought this product today and what can I say, it works perfectly with my old drives which I have had since my windows 95 days, and located some files which I thought were gone for good. That's why Dads go to Maplin! THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent. Just what I was looking for / hoping for. Many of my old computer files were trapped on an internal disc drive from a computyer that no longer works. With this product I was able to recover and continue using my precious files. Thank You Maplin !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This item was very useful as i was about to throw my hard drive away when my old computer broke down. I managed to save all my data which i would have lost. I am now using the hard drive as an external storage drive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I purchased this with a view to attempting the recovery of data from a 2.5 SATA HDD which had failed after an unfortunate blunt trauma to the laptop it was in. Having already gone through the necessaries, en situ, and been forced to purchase a new drive, I did not hold out much hope of it working. It did however, work like a dream, and I now have a very happy colleague who had thought all her family photographs, important documents and daughter's portfolio, lost for all time. The pack itself, comes with all the necessary components to service both SATA and IDE devices (including an adapter to go from 2.5 to 3.5). It includes an easy-to-assemble power adapter for those devices that might require more power than can reasonably be drawn over USB, and the fittings on the adapter itself are all standard, so you can use other (longer) leads with it, if required. It may seem expensive, when viewed as a box on a lead, but it is, in my opinion at least, well worth the investment when you consider the average costs of data recovery services. I would also suggest, that it's worth the price, simply for the convenience, as you can quickly and efficiently strip drives from old or damaged machines, hook them up to the adapter, and transfer your data without having to crack open the case of the machine you're working on.

Is there any way I could get just the 3.5in to 2.5in IDE adapter? I can't find a 3.5in-female to a 2.5in-male anywhere. (I can only find them the other way around.) Thanks.

I have one of your USB 2.0 to SATA adapters but it seems not to work under Windows 10. Do I need a driver for Windows 10 or is the product basically incompatible?

I have an IDE hard drive,no cables attached. Am I right in thinking that all I need to do is plug your IDE/SATA to USB 2.0 into it to get data from it? Needs a power cable as well? Someone already asked this question but I didn't understand your answer!

Asked by: bobby
You would need a 4 pin molex plug to power it as well as this to send the data.
