Channels and Controls

The DJ2GO is a compact two channel controller allowing you to control two tracks, loops or samples at the same time. It has been designed to offer the essential tools in an ultra-convenient portable design offering you a tactile feel that brings you DJ software control to a new level. There are two jog wheels, which provide dynamic control of your mix. The deck has been optimised to include an array of faders, knobs and backlit buttons for immediate access to levels, song selection, cueing, loops and effects. The included software mimics any adjustments you make the controller in real-time.

What can I connect to my DJ2GO?

The DJ2GO features a USB MIDI connection allowing it to be used as a MIDI controller. Being USB powered, the DJ2GO can run straight from your laptop or computer so that you don’t need to worry about losing portability or power.

Compatibility and Software

The DJ2GO comes with Virtual DJ Intro and DJ Lite software and can be used in virtually any MIDI DJ software by simply re-mapping the controls. The DJ2GO is compatible with both Windows and Mac offering access to a range of additional DJ software.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This unit is excellent value for money and very well built/sturdy. It seems easy to configure in different software applications (I set this unit up in DJAY software for Apple Mac in less than 10 minutes), but of course comes with supplied DJing software as well. You will need a separate sound card if you want to play music aloud and cue up the next track in your headphones and this will of course take up additional USB sockets; generally though an additional USB sound card is not expensive. This unit is a useful addition to your laptop if you want to take Djing to the next level and/or a great gift idea for the price too.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice idea, poor execution. Faders very loose and easy to knock. Bundled CD contained manual for a completely different system. As a result I may not have been trying all the options, but from what I did it appears software searching had difficulty with a music collection the size of mine. And although it is advertised for use with a laptop, two sound cards would be needed to use PFL facility which, since laptops don't do that, would mean purchasing an external sound card as well. I bought it for occasional use to provide backing and incidental music for arena presenters, as I MC for large outdoor and agricultural shows. But it is not good enough and I returned it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from This is a nice little unit. It's very fun to play with and good value for money - if you're happy to use the bundled "VirtualDJ LE" software. However, contrary to the product description, this controller is not easy to use with virtually any DJ software. The basic controls can be used with a very select few software packages, but if you want *full* product functionality from any other software, then think again! Not a bad little unit, but I will be returning it and buying a Numark unit instead - which does have full functionality and is easily mapped to other software packages.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Bought the ION DJ2GO. Software looks decent enough (although is free online), but then when it comes to recognising the MIDI Controller, this is where it fails (on my PC and laptop). The mapping directory does not hold any details for the ION DJ2GO version. It does however for the Numark DJ2GO version which is Ј10 more. Spent several hours on the Virtual DJ site, first to work out where the mapping configuration tab was, only to find out you're off better downloading their free version as it's not a configurable option on the preloadedd software CD). SO if you're going to buy this and you can write VDJScript I suggest you opt for the Numark version. My rating reflects the lack of support and the fact the software provided is an extremly light editiion of what you download from the Virtaul DJ website.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not what I really expected, to be honest. I have been a CD DJ since 2003 and I wanted to try the convenience of laptop DJing. All in all, the DJ2GO unit hasn't sold me on the idea. The unit installed just fine, so no problems there. During use, I found that it was very easy to accidentally knock the jog wheels and suddenly find myself 'scratching' the playback because the buttons & faders are very close together and felt a little too loose and free to be forgiving enough to ignore the odd accidental nudge. I don't consider myself to be very sausage fingered, but after the third or fourth time in the same track, I was getting quite annoyed. The Virtual DJ LE software is far less functional than the free version you can download from the Virtual DJ website. Annoyingly, you can't change the size of the program window, so the bottom of the program disappears under the taskbar on a 15" 1440 x 900 resolution laptop screen. The 'skin' of the interface is designed to match the look of the DJ2GO which as aesthetically pleasing as that may sound, looks horrible on your screen. Sadly, you can't change the 'skin' of the decks. A major letdown about the software is that you don't have a playlist function to load up a collection of songs for an 'Auto DJ' mode like you can in the free version-essential if you want to keep the music running while you nip to the toilet... The free version does not have controller compatibility (you have to buy the full version for that) so you can't just swap over from the LE version-you're pretty much stuck with it. The alleged compatibility with 'many other DJ software versions' is a bit of a fib too. I tried demo versions of Traktor, Mixx, Serato & a few others, and none of them would seamlessly detect the controller. I imagine you would have to do some serious script hacking to make it work, but who has the time for that? I'm disappointed by this unit. I imagine the rave reviews given by other people here are likely to have come from those who are already immersed in laptop DJing. My needs were basic; I did not need to beatmatch or scratch, I just wanted to play tracks without hitting any buttons accidentally, load up songs on a customisable interface that I could see on my screen properly, and if the need arose, to play a few tracks in my absence. As mentioned above, the only plus was the ease of installation. I think I'll stick with CDs for now.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from well built but not compatible with the latest windows software Windows 8.1 and the support on the ion site is useless. Maplin Moderator Note: The latest ION Audio Software is compatible with windows 8, we have now added a link to download this in the product description.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice unit at a great price Bought this today (Thanks to Ivan @ Southampton Bevious Valley branch for talking to me about it) and am very happy with it. Didn't try using the "Lite" software it came with it so I can't comment on it but plugged it into my laptop which was running the free (Open Source) MIXXX software (Linux version, but available for Windows+Mac too). Mostly worked as I wanted with the "Numark Mixtrack" setup (sliders needed reversed form "inverted" to "normal" in the software though but I believe that's true of the Numark-badged version too). I've modified the map slightly to have the more useful Low EQ control instead of the separate channel volumes on the controller which tends to be better for mixing. Have also set pitch bend buttons to be hi/lo EQ kill until I decide what else to do with them for now since the jog wheel suffices for temporary bending but that's personal preference. Dimensions, if anyone needs them, are around 308x80x20mm (30mm if you include the hight of the knobs). Despite some other comments the sliders feel very similar to my "real" mixer ones so I've got no issues with them. Only ideal thing it's missing (and why it's 4 instead of 5 stars) is because I'd like it to have a separate ring round the job wheel for quick searching, and I've now lost my channel volume controls to the EQ. - @sxa555
