Rated 2 out of 5 by from Considerably better than the combined photo/slide scanner (which is truly dreadful) but, the quality of scans is still a bit disappointing. For about the same money, an Epson V370 flatbed scanner does a much better job (although much slower and less convenient because you need a computer to control it). On the positive side, the output quality is perfectly fine for social media uploads and it is very quick and simple to use.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor Quality I bought this several weeks ago. The Auto focus and Auto Exposure are very hit and miss. The focus in particular was poor. I played my 35mm colour slides back on my slide projector and they were perfect and in good focus. Put the slide into the ION Film 2SD plus . Transferred to SD card in both 5 mega pixels and 10 mega pixels. Transferred to my PC. And than got a photo out of focus. Big shame. I have over 800 slides to convert. I took it back for a refund.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Ion Film 2 slide scanner Poor quality construction very light plastic. The unit performed quickly and easily resolution not up to the standard of an Epson but passable, however the unit will not work with a Mac system with an OS newer than Leopard which was discontinued ore than 2 years ago!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Quality not great The box says "ultra high resolution scanner". It's not a scanner as such: it's a camera pointing at a backlit film but I knew that when I bought it yesterday. Although it no doubt does have a 14MP sensor the optics are nowhere near that resolution - image quality is mostly much much poorer. The fact that some scanned negs are substantially better than others would seem to indicate that the problem is the film surface is not being accurately enough held in focus by the lens and film carrier. Unfortunately it seems to be random which come out sort-of sharp and which are blurred. And it's not the negatives - they are sharp (from a quality SLR used by a former professional film cameraman). Most are barely good enough for a 6x4 print but not for any bigger. Dust and scratches on old negatives are as unsharp as the image. A 14MP image of a 35mm neg ought to be showing film grain: it doesn't. JPEGS come out between 1 and 2Mb each, similar to those from a 14MP compact digital camera. However whilst a 14MP camera can produce sharp 20x16 prints, the best even good 35mm negatives can produce through this scanner are about 7x5 and many are much worse - unsharp even at 6x4. I am regretfully returning this: if it had even consistently given a sharpish image I'd have kept it. I did not expect wonders, but I hoped to be able to make some new 10x8 prints from old negatives and use some of the images for web pages. Sorry Maplins.
