Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceptional sound quality These speakers have astonishing sound quality. I was looking for a bluetooth speaker for my son to use with his Linx tablet, and my main objective was a decent and sizeable sound (don't ask, it's an occupational hazard). But after a depressing couple of hours auditioning every BT speaker, radio and hi-fi up to about £400 in a certain large computer/electrical store, and being mightily unimpressed by the sound quality of everything in that price range, I wandered into Maplin in hope rather than expectation and came across this. I imagined that anyone making a light-show speaker would probably skimp on the sound, but actually this unit has wonderful bottom and top end extension, with clarity in all ranges (i.e. strong bass doesn't eliminate clarity in the higher registers). There is not the slightest hint of overload (not even any slight PSU sag) when playing loud compressed rock at full volume. It seems weird to talk about a product like this in these terms, but it really is better than a lot of so-call hi-fi setups. A couple of very slight negatives: there is perhaps not *quite* enough volume to fill a very large room or hall (although two units can be linked to make a stereo device, which would certainly be loud enough for anyone); also there is no tone control or EQ (although the role of these is usually to adjust an inadequate box's response towards flatness - which isn't necessary here, so you don't miss it). On the plus side, my son actually loves the light show functions too.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Little disappointed I really did my homework on this item before I purchased. It states it for use in small halls or venues, this was not the case !! I used it for my daughters 7th party and this unit was not powerful enough to fill the hall (small village hall) with 13 children in attendance. Otherwise works great in house.
