Rated 5 out of 5 by from I thought this might be a lot worse than it actually is. So far I have scanned around 400 negatives, and around 600 slides, into my laptop with this. Once the controls are mastered on the software (ie the brightness & colours sliders etc) this little giant scans very faithful reproductions indeed, I now have rescued all our family history, from 1960 onwards, from slides that were rapidly deteriorating. recommend using photoshop or paintshop to clean up old images. I have brought 90% of our stuff back like new with that method. but the machine got me to a position to do that. Nice one Maplin !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Piece of cake to scan most negatives and slides. Bought this at the Luton Branch, first unit failed but was exchanged without any problems. Have set about archiving loads of slides and negatives found in my fathers albums after he passed away. Although the unit is advertised as a 35mm scanner I have managed to scan all manner of formats with a little bit of tweaking, except the very small negatives, although it shouldn't be too difficult to adapt one of the supplied adapters. The process is very fast and the software although basic does cover the essentials, the window displaying the finished print could be larger for fine tuning. Very pleased, and excellent value for money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple and works perfectly I was cautious about buying this as it was so much cheaper than the other models but I am delighted. It works perfectly, was easy to set up on Windows 7, and the resulting quality is very good. Old slides from the 1960s now look fine in Photoshop. The software is very simple to use, and the only minor drawback is that one or two slides were a little tight for the feeder and had to be gently persuaded to drop down. Having experimented with a flatbed scanner with very little success this was a pleasure to use and gave excellent results!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great. did exactly what I wanted . Quick and easy to use and great scanning quality. The auto exposure/compensation was amazing to watch in action as it uncovered the picture from a under/over exposed slide. If you have a few thousand slides to scan to preserve the family achive, this scanner is just what you need

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good value I bought this yesterday for an urgent job and have now completed about 80 images. The scanner is good value; a tenth the cost of a "professional" unit - one of which I used to use until it became obsolete. The software is simple and the processor control of the unit itself is slick. It is particularly good for scanning large numbers of negatives to find ones to save as digital images. The colour balance is much better with negatives than with slides, in my experience. In fact I found that the best way to digitize slides was to use the Ion's slide holder fixed to a diffuse LED ceiling light and photo the colour slides with a camera fitted with a macro lens.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from I partially agree with some of the other reviews as to the simplicity and easy operation once the controls have been master. However one major problem I have found to be rather annoying to the point of returning this product has to be the size of the finnished image of negative or picture copy. It seems to crop a substantial amount of image off the original negative or slide overall and when the slide or negative copy has been positioned with great care at the point of taking this process then chops a great deal of the finnished image which can be very frustrating, as the finnished copy image is somewhat smaller to the original one and at times to much image has been cropped and the image has been spoilt. I do feel that should you wish to copy the full negative image then this isn't for you. The only remidy I can see to improve this product is to have either a larger apreture on the supplied mounts or have a larger sanninig area that ecceeds the overall area of the copying negative or slidw and then this can be cropped accordingly with other image and photogaph software. Ion needs to get back to the drawing board with this and when they do measure the negative and slide area and then redesign the mounts to accommodate these measurements.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect and Simple I had around 600 slides to digitise and looked at several options. I already have a scanner capable of processing slides but it only works 4 at a time and although the scans are higher quality it is a slow process and the time input would have been too great. I needed something cheap to view the slides prior to scanning to weed out the ones I didn't want but this machine was so easy and the results so good I copied all my slide collection using this. A good transparency will produce a good scan a poor one will not. Don't blame the machine. It works perfectly on windows 10 and I managed around 100 per hour. Select the correct thickness on the slide carrier and it will jam now and then but if you are not too rough it operates pretty smoothly. My only problem is what to do with it now I have finished. I scanned all the slides to PC using the interpolated setting and then used the function in Photoshop Elements to batch process them all with auto correction for colour and contrast. I have attached a picture of one of the scanned slides.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent piece of kit, with easy to use software. Love the slide feeder (like the feed on a semi-auto projector). Unlike many other products like this where you have to load negative strips into a frame and then feed it through the scanner, you can feed negative strips straight into the scanner. It's perfectly possible to scan 100+ negatives or slides in an hour. Excellent image quality too, a great buy!

Does it work with a mac?

Asked by: Tony
It doesn’t work with my Mac and when I checked on the Ion website it says it’s only supported up to MacOS 10.10 ( not mentioned on the box) and mine is 10.13. I’m returning it to seller-Maplin.

Can you transfer your slides and negatives to an iPad Air ?

Asked by: Gooner007
Once on the PC you would transfer them to the iPad in the same way you transfer any files over to the iPad, if you are not sure how to do this I would advise contacting Apple.
