Rated 1 out of 5 by from This product, putting it plain and simply is dreadful. It produces a very poor sound quality (buzz’s and hum's in various themes and variations) which I found extremely frustrating. The EZ Software failed to setup on my Vista, not to beaten I tried it on my Netbook Win 7. Initially it produced a reasonable sound but the second and third attempts it failed miserably. After several emails to the customer support (who were very helpful & friendly) finally admitted quote: “We have made our development team aware that we do have some people experiencing issues with the EZ Software so this will hopefully be addressed in a future update” The Audacity software which I use to rip my LP’s couldn’t cope also. Needless to say this product is on its way back to the shop.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I found this easy to use. The software loads quickly and easily and it all connects up without fuss. I would recommend this to anyone who, like me, has a lot of old tapes to convert

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Received one of these as a present and initially thought it was a good idea. However, the software relies on Itunes and is totally bad in that you may only do what the programmers fed into the routines. Additionally, the software attempts to take over your machine and force you down paths which sensible people never take. I dislike Itunes and really want nothing to do with them or their company. I did manage to get around that by using Creative's editing package and then found that every track has cassette motor noise audible and whilst in most music this is barely audible, in classical music with wide range & low volume passages, the noise is incredibly annoying. Device is now sat on a shelf and is unlikely to be used except in an emergency I would advise finding an alternative way to transfer your tapes. moderator note: There are free alternatives to the software provided which allow the user to avoid using iTunes (please see the FAQs section for further details). The quality of recording the Tape to USB device produces is directly related to the quality of tape used in it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Misleading text on box Like another reviewer I believed what the box said only to discover that the device does nothing more than play the tapes into a PC as separate wav files. Thereafter iTunes is needed to do the conversion to MP3. I could do what this does with an old Sony Walkman I have in the cupboard. I thought this would perform like another device I have that "rips" CDs onto a SD card as MP3s. This is going back to the store!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Can't agree with the happy reviewers. Seems to suffer from the same faults as the now discontinued Tape Express made by the same people. Easy to set up, but doesn't work too well after that. Attempted to convert a tape, and none of the tracks got to iTunes. Tried another, and the device wouldn't play the casette and turned itself off after about 10 seconds.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant! I've just copied all my Dad's old linguaphone language courses onto my iPod - bargain!, I've been meaning to do it for years but I could never be bothered with all the cables and trying to find the right software. This was really easy and everything I needed was in the box.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't bother to buy this. I bought this gadget in great anticipation of digitising my back catalogue of tapes. It's very easy to use, software was simple to install on my mac, however, there the positives end. The machine noise was evident on all of my recordings, it played my tapes at the wrong speed (slowly). I'm taking this device back to the shop.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I had some tapes lying around at home and nostalgia got the better of me and I wanted them on my iPhone, I didn't want to give Apple any more money so wanted to convert my tapes. The software is well written and easy to use, but I must say, I wouldn't be seen alive on the streets listening to a tape "Walkman" - but the headphones have come in useful for the gym!

Description says: "Tape Player/MP3 Convertor"  BUT  "• Requires iTunes to be installed on your PC for conversion to MP3 format"  what format does it record in?  I don't like iTunes - you lose control of your music, can it output to conversion software?

Asked by: RoLo
This would convert to MP3 format and the included software does require iTunes however you would be able to source other audio capture software that would not need iTunes.
