Update: iOS 9.1 solves Bluetooth connection problem

On September 16th 2015, Apple released a new version of iPhone and iPad software, called iOS 9.0. iOS 9.0, 9.0.1 and 9.0.2 introduced a problem that causes Bluetooth to be switched off when you try to pair the Card Reader Pro or Pro Contactless. We recommended that you didn’t update.

On October 22nd 2015, Apple released iOS 9.1, which solves the problem. You can now feel free to update.

Incorrect error message
You may see an incorrect error message if you pair a new card reader for the first time, or reconnect a card reader that you have previously unpaired. The message appears in the Bluetooth settings screen on your iPhone or iPad and reads "Connection Unsuccessful. Make sure "iZettle XXX" is turned on and in range." In most cases, you can ignore this error message as it is not correct.

When you dismiss the message by tapping "Ok", check that "Connected" appears beside "iZettle XXX" under "My devices" in the Bluetooth settings screen on your iPhone or iPad.
If you see "Connected", then the card reader has successfully paired and you can use it to accept card payments in the iZettle app.
If you see "Not Connected", then the card reader has not successfully paired. In this case, read our support page, Connecting a Card Reader Pro via Bluetooth and try again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Avoid iZettle! Created a iZettle.account for my company and ordered a card reader to accept payments with. Evething arrived after a week and I was able to carry out a few test transactions to make sure everything was working. However, about a week later, my account was unexpectedly blocked without any warning or reason. iZettle Security couldn't state the reason for being blocked, and refused to enable my account again. Now I'm out of pocked and unable to accept card payments using the device I purchased. Avoid this company at all costs. They can close your account at any time, without reason, and you lose any and all money due to you.

Myself and my band play at various bars and events and it is sometimes vital for us to be able to accept a card payment after or before the gig on the spot. Izettle makes this process as easy as it can possibly be and it makes perfect sense for me as i only pay when the transaction goes through without any fixed costs or monthly fees. highly recommend! I've seen iZettle in various stores and marketplaces around London and I always find it very convenient, especially in the cases I really didn't expect to be able to pay with card! As a vendor I have used it when helping out a friend who has a small ceramics shop. I love that you can just download the app and be up and running within a few minutes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really great device - perfect for small businesses! The iZettle really is revolutionary, I know that sounds like an overstatement but honestly this device really is quite something. It's incredibly easy to use and set up. I have our work iPad and my iPhone connected to it so I can take payments pretty much anywhere. The best part is that there are no monthly/annual fees like other card machines. You pay a percentage for every payment you make but that's it. The percentage you pay is on a sliding scale so at most it'll be 2.75% and then gets lower the more you use it. You can download the iZettle app and customise it completely, adding all of your products and assigning them pictures and categories if you'd like. There is so much customisation, it's brilliant. You can also customise your receipts, add messages, do whatever you'd like. We bought a compatible receipt printer (an Epson one, a list of supported printers is on the iZettle website) so we have "proper" receipts printed with our transactions. This is optional however and you can e-mail receipts or print them to your normal printer. Customers love it, pretty much everyone comments on how "high-tech" it is and are all really impressed by it. It's such a neat little device and combined with an iPad and receipt printer it's all we'd ever need. It's completely mobile and can travel with us anywhere we need it to. The battery life of the device is pretty decent, we tend to leave it plugged in whenever possible just to keep it juiced. To be fair it's not perfect, there are some downsides - one is that you cannot process payments over the phone / enter card details manually. Another downside is that refunds are only possible via the card reader for the first 24 hours. After this point it's not possible so you'd need to find an alternative (internet banking transfer refund, in our case). The worst part of the whole experience is setting up your iZettle account - lots of hoops to jump through and uploading documents. Not a problem per-se, but it's certainly quite time consuming. I also unfortunately made an error during the sign up process and had to do it all again to rectify the problem. The iZettle customer service was incredibly helpful. The final minor gripe is that payments take a few days to arrive into your designated account. So you take a payment on a Monday and the money won't typically show up until Thursday or Friday. Not a big issue, but it would be great if it was a bit quicker. Overall I honestly couldn't be happier with the iZettle, it's absolutely fantastic. I did carefully research between this and PayPal here (which is very similar) but decided on the iZettle based on past experiences with PayPal. I know others who use PayPal and to be fair they were just as happy with it (but I can't comment on the app side of things etc). If you are a small business, independent trader or anyone looking for a way to take card payments (all cards accepted) then you simply will not find a better option than the iZettle.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Unreliable - will lose you trade and cost you. This card reader is very, very unreliable. This is a problem when paying customers have no cash or other way of paying. After the awkwardness of fiddling around, trying to get it to connect, while your customer patiently waits, you end up having to send a bill through the post or by email and hope they are the kind to pay their bills promptly. Avoid his thing at all costs, it causes more stress and inconvienience than it saves. .

what printer do you suggest for producing receipts for this card reader

The receipts are emailed to the client, if you wanted to print them it would just be a case of printing an email, so pretty much any of our A4 printers would be sufficient.
